Cage Has Been Ordered!!!

Chromoly Cage, x bars & over the seat bars, through the firewall bars to strut towers, legal to 8.50s.

I can hardly wait to get it, ship time is about 4 weeks from now, since its all custom built, jigged and notched, and then shipped. Should make for a nice and easy installation.

Car will start to be legal to go quicker than 11.50s meaning i can go to lower altitudes, and it will also be streetable soon too (mufflers and mid pipe). Should be driving it some this summer.

i never thought that my car would ever need a cage... but it turns out it does....

this is the hardest thing to do to this car, since it will always be there at this point, its not easy to take a fully welded cage out of a car... This car will proabably always be mine at this point, it will be hard to sell on one hand. Harder to sell to a person that wants a street car, but easier to sell to somebody that wants a race car...

are there any welds to make in the car? make sure someone thats familiar with welding moly tubing does it or can make it unsafe.

yea its a fully welded kit... but i have one of my friends going to help me. he has his own fabrication shop. we are going to spend a few nights sometime putting it in. it should basically be hold in place and tack. then once everything is tacked in place we can weld around the whole thing. Its going to be fun. I know how to weld, but dont have access to a tig welder to do something like this.

I know you have been racing for awhile just be sure to look at the list of spec for welding a cage in ( ie dont clean up the welds ).

yep... you cannot grind the welds at all. it has to be a pure and clean weld from the get go.

if you cant weld all the way around the bars too, you got to gusset the two bars your trying to weld, but I think ill beable to weld all the way around on all of them.

Its amazing how light a full 12 point cage is going to be in the car though, its only adding about 80 pounds.

Yeah, I figured you were pretty familiar with it, just thought I would mention it incase you were. I have seen a couple people come to the track with the welds all cleaned up because it looked prettier that way and were highly disappointed when they didnt pass tech inspect.

Only for you. Naturally when on a modded mustang forum when a cage is mentioned you mind naturally draw towards a roll cage.
