Sorry, I don't know Windows very well since I gave up on them after XP. Contact geek squad at Best Buy, they'll probably be able to help you best.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Most computers come pre-configured out of the box.. software, windows, user accounts, etc. This may have had something to do with it.

The manufacturer sometimes uses the administrator account to install stuff, and even if you are an administrator, you have to 'claim control' more or less... resetting the pasword may have done that.

Not sure.

well bust buy set the computer up.......

they didn't have the straight from factory one, it as the best buy yellow sticker buy, but i got it for the normal price cause i didn't want what they had done in the first place.

i wound up deleting like 5 programs right off the batt, but i wasn't able to get web access till right now, and it just wasn't letting me run anything new.

for future advice ... when you have problems like that with vista, or even 7, make sure to download the file instead of just clicking the open or run options. Then right click on the file and select run as administrator.

I always built my computers.. but when I got to college I figured a laptop would be nice.. I bought my laptop at best buy as well...

They told me (for an extra fee) they would create restore discs for me.... I told them I had a stack of windows discs at home and that I could manage...

LOL.. When I took it out of the box, it had a restore disc, a windows only disc, and the computer had a restore partition on the hard drive (all from the factory) What a scam..

It had all sorts of bullshit software on it, most of it was just trial shit that I would never use, or stuff that I already had.

So I wiped it and used the windows only disc that came with it.

My aunt bought a laptop for her daughter from best buy.. it was the last one they had in stock and it was the demo, so they had it passworded. They told her that they couldn't give her the password, that she had to pay to get them to restore it. The only account was a 'guest' account. Seriously, WTF? Are they retarded or just assholes... they could have just deleted the password..

Anyway I wiped it and reinstalled windows for her, problem solved. What a crock...

or you could just get rid of Windows altogether and get Ubuntu! lol
I fooled with Windows 7 for about 10 min, realized it was just another Microshaft bucket of fail, and went back to Ubuntu. The main reason I hated it right off the bat was the fact that you cannot control any of the OS's free will. It does what Microsoft wants it to do and you're stuck with the BS.

Use vlite to make your own windows vista/7 install. nlite for xp. End of story.

Linux is good, I love it, (fedora) it has tons of awesome and free software, but due to the cold hard truth that 90% of the shit today runs on windows, it really doesn't work for everyone.

Plus not everyone is comfortable with popping the hood, busting out the terminal and getting down and dirty typing commands.

I have Fedora on my laptop but the only thing that's on it is the SCT Pro Race software.
My desktop uses Ubuntu which has a GUI environment (I'm on the forum with it right now). If you know how to crack software coding you can run anything in Ubuntu with no issues. It may take you 2 months to get Linux setup like you want it but once it is, it's flawless.

Well sure. But not everyone is going to take the time to do that.. hell not many people even know HOW to do that. It takes them 2 months to get their version of windows the way they like it... I format more often than that, lol.
