whats the fifference between an pentium dual core processor and an intel cuore duo proccessor?

if something calls for a minimum requirement of a core duo 1.8ghz would a dual core 2.22 ghz be equivelent?

Pentium Dual-Cores are essentially stripped down Core 2 Duos. They have less cache and and a slower front side bus (fsb). They tend to have an 800mhz bus (which comes out to 400mhz per core). The slowest fsb for a Core2 Duo is 1066 (or 533mhz per core). The next step up was the Core 2 with 1333 bus and I believe they go up to 1600fsb on the extreme Core 2 Quads. Think of Pentium Dual Cores as a celeron classed Core 2 Duo.

Second question, yes (somewhat). Core 2 Duos are quite a bit faster than Pentium Dual Core but it's kind of difficult to compare the 2 based on clock speed alone.

It's like comparing a turbo 2 liter engine vs a turbo 4.6; let's say you have 400 hp coming out of both engines, the 4.6 will still be superior in most circumstances.

Yea the i3 is pretty badass. Back when I was a sales rep for Circuit City, I'd always tell people to "future-proof" their machines so that a year down the road they aren't ready to throw their computer out the window and already in the market for another computer.

i recently bought my desktop 9 months ago with the intel core 2 quad processor with a 1066 fsb, 8 gigs of ram. i had upgraded to windows 7 and had to instal 2 extra fans in the computer because of a factory cooling issue.

since i installed the fans ive tried to tax the computer a few times and failed miserably. i was playing a game, streaming a video, and playing music all at the same time, and the computer didn't even break a sweat.

Seems like a great deal on an i3 computer. If you do gaming, you might try to get something with a bit more powerful graphics card though since they're near impossible to upgrade in laptops down the road.

so i can't download firefox. after it extracts the file it says the user doesn't have the permissoin to use all the features of the programs and tells me i can either switch users or enter the admin password.

best buy set this computer up so i have no idea what the fuck is going on, and i've never seen this pop up before.
