My electric got shut off. I came home from work today and some weiner is in the side yard cutting my power. I asked the dude whats up and he said I was past due $748. I told him thats impossible and of course the smart ass said "thats what they all say". I damn near wanted to strangle the dude but I resisted. So I went back inside and made a call to FPL. Of course, they had my bill all screwed up and couldnt figure it out. I ultimately had to go down the road to where I could get online to email them BACK the statement they sent me so they could adjust my bill. I just moved into this place in January and they said they cut me off for non payment of that $748.

Well, I sent them the bill they sent me....I copied it below

If $21 was overfue on February 4th,,,,how the hell did my bill get to $748! Once I sent them the bill they sent me they appologized and found their error. Unfortunately, by then, their contractors that do turn ons were off for the night. Soooooo, I am stuck with no power because of their mistake.

I really hate monopoloies. They can do whatever they want because there is no competition. If I dont like FPL, its too bad for me! There is no other alternative. They know they can make mistakes and fuck with peoples familys and you cant do a thing!

So Im in the dark over a $21 bill they accidently put into the system as $748!

Dude, I would bitch and complain and keep calling them demanding to talk to a manager about this. This is what happened:

1. You lost all the food in your fridge
2. You couldn't use the restrooms
3. You couldn't watch the boob toob
4. You couldn't do any work for the duration since you work from home and use a computer and phone
5. The quality of life has diminished with the loss

Demand compensation for all those losses and come to an agreement on the amount. I would be especially pissed about all the groceries you lost. I'll call you later! I do know what you mean about monopolies. Fuck COMCAST with long hard thick lead painted stick.

I agree with that raging homo above me BUT, check your contract with them for anything in there stating they dont assume liablity for this type of mistake.

Where I'm at, we have Entergy as the electric provider and one of my buddies is the cut-off / reconnect guy for part of Baton Rouge. I know he tells me that if someone gets disconnected for non-payment but makes the payment before the end of that business day, they'll send someone out to reconnect even after hours. Hell, he's on call even if something stupid happens for 2 to 3 hours after he officially gets off at 6. Sounds like FPL has bad business ethics/practice. If you have anymore issues, get the BBB in on it.

I wouldn't think this type of "mistake" is part of the contract about n ot assuming liability. I would think that the liability lies with natural type cut off's, or storms or such. They blatantly cut his shit off cause they did not keep their books properly. That's just a complete fuck up. If they are good, they will compensate him.

Hell JA, at a minimum, tell them you want to be prorated. Even if it is $5. But make sure you tell them only after you have exhausted all efforts above.
