why buy a 2011?

i was talking with some friends about this the other day. Whats so special about ford's new 5.0 engine? granted its a 5.0 4 valve with 412hp, but I just dont get it. Im sure i could get a 302 stroker with some 4v heads and cams and achieve the same if not more power for cheaper and a better comp ratio. just wondering..

Ahh but you see you've already purchased the vehicle, assuming the standard ~$30,000 price tag for a new GT you've only got about $2000 to buy a 302 block and 4 valve heads and all the supporting nonsense... Heck, even if you only paid base $28,000 thats still only $4000 which is getting closer. You are still a 6 speed manual/auto, suspension refinement, exhaust and intake upgrades not to mention the much nicer interrior (to an extent) away from the 2011. I can assure you, that you wont match the performance of the 2011 5.0 with the difference in cost of a new 05-09 GT to the 2011 GT.

That is most likely why you'd buy the 2011.

umm, the fact the car comes with that already. you don't have to spend the 5K to get it to the point the car comes from the factory.

and the 2010+ looks better.

im paying 20k for my car . I'd like a 6 speed, but i like long gears for some reason. exhaust doesnt bother me as i only spend 1200 for mine. suspension wont be much better. I do like the front end on the 2010+, but the end isnt great. Its kinda like a butterface, it looks really great when its dark out .

you are forgetting the 412 is to the crank to, so i'm just a hop, skip and a twin screw away from outperforming them.

Dude, honestly I say keep your car. Do your suspension the right way, and buy a TVS or Novi 2200 and have fun.

You are right, even assuming that drivetrain loss is like 20% thats still 330 ish to the ground, still 70 HP more than a stock 05-10 makes to the ground Sure, twin screws away but considering the sales cost of a new 05-09 and the '11 it's hard to argue that you can get the same car for the same money. Twin screw or not

Buying used, isnt a fair comparison, but when you put it that way the used car will always win in price comparisons...

I bought mine brand new for 23k, puts as much to the ground as a stock '11 does to the crank, mine has a race weight 100lbs less than a new manual and aside from the gt500s, i think the 05-09's look better.

If you go that route (compare price/performance of new car to an old modded car) why didn't you buy a Honda and mod the hell out of it? Or buy a V6 Mustang and mod it? In the end, it would be cheaper than a GT.

Contrary to believes on this board, the MAJORITY of people don't buy a car just for power. People buy cars and Mustangs for a mixture of performance AND interior comfort. Compare the Mustang to the Camaro.

*EDIT* Comment not directed at the quoted person. Just a general comment to all reading.

I gave more reasons than just mods didn't I? that was 1 point (uno, eins, one), mine is lighter and looks better imo.

There's always something cheaper, faster, gayer, etc, but how many clean looking civics do you see running fast? If I had a nickle for everyone I've seen, I'd still be broke. How many V6 stangs do you see consistently running fast with little downtime? a lot more than civics admittedly, but still not good. And a mustang to camaro comparison? whats the point they are made to compete with each other, they're supposed to be comparable.

i understand buying used isnt fair, but most people who are like ZOMG NEW 5OH already have a mustang, so it would be cheaper just to build theres up than take on a new note

Couple of things here.

Looks are subjective. So other people can't give you their opinion on that. I happen to think the current S197 is better looking. What does that matter to you? You're the one that matters.

As for the power comparisons. At this point it's silly to argue numbers for a couple of reasons. I wasn't aware there are any actual dyno numbers out for the 11', so it's silly to argue 2007 RWHP numbers Vs 2011 flywheel numbers.

The main reason it's silly, however, is that the 2011 not only makes over 100 more horsepower at the crank, it makes more horsepower across the entire rpm range, revs more quickly, and has 4v heads that they say breathe as well or better than the terminator heads.

So even if you were at the same rwhp number with a 2007, vs the flywheel number of the 2011, you are still light years away performance wise from what the 5.0 will do. Let alone what it is capable of doing.

Like I said in my edit, it wasn't directed at you (your quote was the closest I found, less scrolling). I was just picking out the performance vs price issue.

As far as reliability, the 2011 stock is going to be more reliable than a modded 2005-2009. Maybe not short term reliability, but long term.

Looks is subjective. I think the 2011 looks better than the 05-09 (although, I am in the minority there). The interior of the 2010 (which I assume is nearly the same as 2011) is MUCH nicer than the previous generation and I think it rides a lot better. These are reasons one might buy a 2011 Mustang, like the OP asked.

It's all a matter of what's important to each individual. I'm buying a new F150. It doesn't have the towing capacity of comperable GM models. Why am I buying it? Because the interior is much nicer, it looks better, and it rides better (all IMO). These are more important to ME than towing capacity.

Zip, are you saying a car with 412rwhp and 100lbs lighter is lightyears away from competing with a stock 2011?
