Fish put off alot of heat when no one is around and it evaporates the water.


Thats why we have clouds. Also the reason we're in the middle of a "Low water in fishtank" pandemic. Because of fish.

well you could said no because the rate of evaporation is constant where as the thermal expansion is limited to the heat given off by the fish.

edit:
that and fish are cold blooded... only warm up when they have to do quick motions, relying on anaerobic muscles, exerting energy which turns into thermal energy.

The air in the room absorbs it and having a hood on top of the tank with a nice warm lamp over it just helps to evaporate the water, thats all there is to it. Dry air passing over water sucks up water and the air in an A/C controlled home tends to be pretty dry.

You want to watch just adding water to the tank as the build up of amonia keeps rising. You'll need to do a 20 to 25% water change if the tank is 10G or larger every 2 weeks (about how often I do it) and never add water straight out of the tap unless it's been treated prior to adding to remove impurities and chlorine.
