Myth or not

To clear everything up on the hole thing about burning a valve or sucking a valve by running open header. From my knowledge it's not true I have never seen or talked to anyone that has burnt a valve. Now that doesn't mean it won't happen. But this post was mostly to let people no if u want to run your car open headers it's a very rare chance you
are gonna burn them or wharp them. All that's happing to the engine when u have uncapped headers is it's making your engine work harder and yes I guess if you ran the car like that for a long time something will happen to the engine. But if u want todo it for like a weekend thing to just mess around u are not going to hurt anything. Besides your ears because it's hella loud

i have always heard that cool air can reach the hot exhaust valve and warp it like that, but i have never heard of it happening.

How about all the motorcycles running open exhaust with no baffles in the pipes?

As long as there is SOMETHING bolted to the heads, be it headers or full exhaust, it is fine.

It's when you run the engine with nothing bolted to the heads that it causes problems. Cold air is right there. THAT is when you have problems damaging parts.

Backpressure is another issue; if you do not have enough, it will kill your bottom end torque, but will not directly damage the engine. Open headers on a stock engine is pointless. It needs certain backpressure to run properly..

yea that's what i meant, i heard if you have a bad manifold gasket leak it can fuck a valve. But like some of you guys i have seen dozens of engines run open headers and never have any issues.

You can run long tubes with out a problem. I haven personaly done this with my 87 montecarlo while I was looking for the right mufflers.

to clarify: running open headers doesn't cause problems. running open MANIFOLDS will burn valves because all of the ports dump into the same tube and forces cold air back in.
