why does my computer take so long to wake up?
It takes probably 2 minutes for the sign in screen to come up when I open my laptop. Is it because I never turn it off and always just close the lid with a bunch of programs up? Like IE, Chrome, Word, Windows Media Player, My Documents?
Should computers be shut down every few days? It sometimes restarts when doing those Automatic Update things, but besides that...never. |

You don't have to reboot it everyday, but maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

But would that be why it takes so long to wake up after it has been sleeping?

That or just turn off the sleep timer or extend it to 99999 minutes

What're the specs on your system?
Is it using sleep or hibernate? Does it wake up faster if you close all your programs before you close the lid?

What are you talking about. You dont have to shut down/reboot your machine 2 or 3 times a week. Once is all you need. I have mine update on Wednesday so it auto reboots Wednesday night. Other then that it does not shut down

actually, that will help some because it will close loose threads or threads that may have encountered problems and are eating memory. I tell my clients to reboot every day when they leave. is it necessary every day? no. but is it better to get them in the habit? hell yes.

As said 7 wakes up crazy fast compared to previous versions. And i recommend rebooting your computer a couple times a week just to let the computer restart fresh without a bunch of little things that may be slowing it down. I mean it doesnt take long to do. My old desktop i didnt shut off for years except when the power went out here and there. Other than that it never was shut off...and yes i could tell, but i didnt use it except for downloading. And guess what? Now the power supply broke on me lol.

I do have windows 7, and that is why it is even more annoying when it takes so long.
I have had it on the 'High Performance' battery setting, but today I switched it over to the 'HP Recommended' setting, and that is actually making the start up faster... With the Hi Po setting, it was just sleeping, but the HP rec I think it is hibernating, because I have to hit the little power button to resume it, but that wakes it up within 5 or 10 seconds. Specs of my system... the computer I have is the HP Pavilion dv7-2185dx with Windows 7, 64bit OS, Hopefully yall can see this: ![]() Damn not really. Well what other specs do you want on it? |

do a reset and then do a quick sweep with a virus protector just to delete any cookies or stupid things that are hogging ram and processor speed.
