Okay... electrical = not my thing..

anyways

went to home depot bought one of those ceiling lighting things.. worker there gave me wrong bulbs.. no sweat went back to exchange.. connected everything and it wont turn on lol..

im no genius but i always thought BLACK wire was ground.. so i grounded the black wire to some green bolt that connects to the board.. and connected the white wire to my power cord... and nothing.. i dont know what im doing wrong ...

No, the black wire is the hot supply wire.

You connect white to white, black to black and the ground wire to the green bolt.

okay there is only 2 wires though.. 1 black 1 white .. the rest are already connected to the ends of where the bulb go.

even on the back of the box it saids connect white with white black with black.. but theres only 1 black 1 white lol

There should only be one white and one black wire, black being hot, and a plain copper wire for ground. If the fan doesn't have a ground, take that puppy back and grab one that does unless you like blowing bulbs.

not all new devices have a ground... white to white black to black... with plasic boxes and plastic conduit being used so much now you see the ground becoming a thing of the past

i got shocked once when i was in 5th grade lol.. i started yelling and my teacher gave me detention.. ftmfl...dont fuck around with the pencil sharpner when your tryna plug it in lol

its really simple actually i can get pictures but i dont have a camera so ill have to do it with my phone..

theres a ballast with most of the wires connected already.. 1 black wire and 1 white wire arent.. i noticed there wasnt a power plug so i asked homedepot they just told me to cut an cord extension and twist the copper together then put electrical tape.. ive juggled white with the extension and black.. the white actually melted the power end a bit lol

So let me get this straight. You have a fluorescent light that you want to be able to plug into a regular 110v wall socket. Am I right?

The light should have 1 white wire and 1 black wire that are bare on the end. It may have a green wire, it may have a green screw on the frame, and it may not.

Black is hot, white is neutral, and green (or bare wire with no sheathing) is ground.

wow nice picture..

i did that but there is no green wire. only a green screw. i tried grounding the black wire then the white wire and it exploded my wall lol.. also lost power for a bit. the plug kinda melted too =T

so what your saying is i just need a wire to go from the ground to the power?

NO!

If you have a 3 prong cord, (like a 3 prong extension cord) there will be 3 wires in it. A black, a white, and a green.

If you look close at the male plug on the 3 prong cord:

The black wire goes to the flat narrow prong.
The white wire goes to the flat wide prong.
The green wire goes to the round prong.

You need to get your 3 prong extension cord, cut it to your desired length. Then look at the wires:

tie the white wire from the cord to the white wire on the light fixture,
tie the black wire from the cord to the black wire on the light fixture,
and take the green wire from the cord and screw it down to the light fixture with the green screw.

Read this and refer to the picture I posted.

Just connect the black to black, and white to white and put a wire nut on the ground wire and tape it up real good so that it can't come in contact with any of the other wires.

dude there is no black to black white to white lol..

thats the thing bro. there is no ground wire lol. only 2 wires that arent hooked up. 1 black 1 white.
