Fighting tickets?

How hard is it and what do you do? Here is my situation. It was a 4 lane highway, two on each side. Well i was in the far right lane, and a guy from another light turned out into the lane i was in, so I swerved into the left lane and sped past the guy. The cop clocked me at 54 in a thirty five, but i only sped to get past the guy. In fact, i was on my brake after i passed him. Well, I got a ticket for it!

Is that worth fighting?

If i could fight it, would it be more expensive to do so rather than just paying it?

why did you pass him up? i cant really see any fight you have. but ask for a trial by jury or court appointed laywer if you want to fight it. or maybe the judge will listen to your plea and let you take defensive driving. im 19 and practically a professional in the courtroom lol. been there way too many times then i should.

i had to slam on my brakes, just to not hit him. in fact, i still would have hit him if i didnt get into the fast lane...So i sped up to get away from him and then slowed down to the speed limit.

wait... what four lane avenue has a 35 mph limit? is this like in the middle of town? around a school?

Yeah man all the four lanes I know of are posted at 70mph. You sure he didnt give it to you for going to slow?

Damn! kansas has high S/Ls... well... i remember on my way across the US, the speed limit creepin up 5 mph at a time... 45..50..55..60..65..70..75.. so the limit was 70 or 75 at that point..

yes it was near a school. Western Kentucky University to be exact. I think i will just pay the damn ticket.

cops are on the crawl everywhere lately about getting tickets issued. I had a friend of mine that works at the local sherrifs office who was telling us that the other night.

What definition of highway are we using here? There are several types.

First you have the interstates which are controlled access highways with a speed limit of a minimum of 55.

US routes which are uncontrolled and vary on speed depending on the state and what type of zone (residential, school, business, industrial, etc).

Then you have state routes (SR) which are the same as US routes.

So were you on a four lane US or State route that went by a school?

Dude, i dont know! It was 4 lanes. Two on each side, no median, just separated by double yellow lines. Right outside my college with a speed limit of 35! Said it once, i will say it again, I think i will just pay the ticket!

University Blvd.

It is in Bolwing Green, KY 42101

the speed does go up to 55 or 60 i believe, but right in that area it is 35 because it goes by the baseball and football complexes.

i didnt read anything but the first post but in my eyes, you brokoe the law, now your gonna have to face the fines of doing so. you could have passed the guy wihtout speeding up 20 mph over the speed limit
