My new car
Well my car will be in the shop the rest of the week. So here is what I'm driving until then. I love it. It's nice to actually drive a car that makes decent power. So much quicker than my sixer.I think It has 240 hp and 280 ft lbs of torque which isn't much but it's a damn nice improvement over my car

ok i have a question, i've never had a s/c. on the boost gauge it goes from -10 to 10. does that mean its pushing 10 lbs of boost?

![]() Where ever the arrow is, is how much boost its pushing. -10 is vacuuming -10lbs So i was told anyway |

You want "room" on your boost gauge to accommodate for spikes in pressure. Likely a car with a 10psi gauge maxes at 6-8 psi.The S/C 3.8 is nothing to sneeze at. It's really too bad GM never put those in a RWD platform. Just means you have to do it yourself, lol.

Well remember with roots blowers we really dont have "spikes"

Well, you shouldn't. But I don't see it as a physical impossibility. Plus, I don't see anyone making a boost gauge that doesn't go to at least 10psi, as no one is going to make a setup that is going to max out at less than 6psi.

From what i've read before 6-8 psi doesn't seem like much at all

It's not a lot when you're talking boost.
It makes a lot more sense when you think of boost in terms of bars, not psi. 1 bar = 1 atmosphere = ~14.7psi at sea level. So, 6-8 psi is only 0.5 bar. An N/A motor naturally operates at 1 bar. By adding boost, you're increasing that, so, for example, a motor with .5 bar boost is operating at 1.5 bar. The rough math is that number multiplied by the amount of torque the motor produces N/A, minus any losses will give you the approximate amount of torque the motor will make at that amount of boost. So, if you have a b-port Cobra motor (300 ft-lbs stock) and you put .5 bar of boost, you know have a motor operating at 1.5 bar, so 1.5 x 300 = 450 ft-lbs (gross). The supercharger will consume ~50% of the power it makes just to turn itself ((450-300)/2 = 75), so you should see a max torque of around 375 ft-lbs on an otherwise stock motor. Turbos don't consume nearly as much power as superchargers (figure a loss of only 10-20%), and most stock turbo setups start at a full bar of boost (*Stock* Evos run 2!). So, where that Cobra motor will get the effect of 1.25 bar with a supercharger, with the exact same boost coming from a turbo would net 1.4-1.45 bar. That 0.15 bar difference means 45 ft-lbs at the crank. As horsepower is a function of torque and rpm, you can use the same math for horsepower, but it's less accurate. And, mind you, this is all very rough, and ignores a lot of factors (like what TYPE of supercharger), so don't take it as gospel. But it should get you close enough for arguments' sake.

Those cars can actually be pretty quick. I've seen some locally that have run low 12's
