my dad's 7 series has a rain sensing windshield. Its actually annoying because it locks the radio transmission from our sunpass (bridge toll)...

I have a rain sensing windshield...it collects water drops which gives me a visual sense on whether its raining.

It probably has an athermic windshield, to block heat. There is usually a certain potion of the windshield that isn't protected so the transponder will still work if mounted in that area.

i guess i can see why technology would adapt around the stupid so that ppl who know what the fuck they are doing while driving can feel a little safer on the streets

The only thing I don't like about newer cars and newer technology is the numbness that goes along with driving a car like that.

I swear, my old Mazda pickup was a million times more fun to drive than the wife's escape (kind of a bad analogy, I know), but it was the lack of complexity that was so beautiful and so entertaining.

Why do you think the old Cobra 427s (like 1FF's, even the kit cars) are so expensive? The fun factor of those cars compared to say, a Nissan GTR, is exponential. There's plain air in the tires, no traction control, no cruise control, and if you're in a turn and give it too much gas, you'd better know how to control it or you could die.

This is why my ABS module going bad in my car was more a blessing than a burden. I'm much more aware of my surroundings (rain, people in front of me, pedestrians, the like), and I know that without my ABS, my traction control is kaput- so all those times where I could punch it right off the line and let the TC put it back to controllable are gone.

These things are just novelties, though. Of course, there's nothing difficult about turning on your windshield wipers- but it's one less thing you have to worry about. Sure, my cruise control will hold me steady at any speed above 25 mph- but what if, the one time I'm not paying attention, the car in front of me just stops? Many of the systems today are designed to make driving more comfortable and much safer. God knows, the best way to improve an already good thing is to make it that much more comfortable and that much safer.
