Popped my cherry and sold my first car tonight. Spent a 5 days on the floor with a total of 7 customers who were shopping prices not cars, wanted a 50k car but only wanted to spend 30k, or Asian (with thick heavy accents)

my first 2 customers today were men that were alone, but shopping for there wife. But they couldn't make the decision cause it wasn't gonna be there car. I politely told them "y are you here if it's your wifes decision, y aren't you home relaxing watching some tv with your feet up instead of wasting ur time here because she's the one who's gonna driving the car"

My third was a cop with a baby on the way. new more about the car, the pricing programs then me. after some major haggling, even had to change the trim level on the car once, but fuck me running i got him.

mine is a married couple, guys a cop, with a son on the way, who new exactly what he wanted too

I always liked those. I remember another car I sold was a brand new 05 300C. Older guy who wanted to traded his Caddy for it. He was a long time Caddy man, but wanted to give the 300 a shot, because of it's size and looks. He came in and told me "I want a 300 and it has to have a V8." So I showed him a white one we had, then he saw a used one on the lot, that was the exact same as the new one. I worked him all day about which he wanted more. New vs used. He ended up with the new one, and thanked me for putting up with him all day. About 6 months later. I get a call saying someone was looking for me. I quickly finished my lunch and hurried back to the dealership. It was him again and this time he said "See that new red mega cab truck? I want that one."

yea, well both him and his wife had a vw, and he pretty much made it clear that whatever car he bought now she was gonna stay the same brand, so if i couldn't get them into the toureg i would not only potentially loose his deal, but his wifes as well in 18 months

Hey Rags, Congrats on your first sale. I have been selling cars for almost 5 years. You know that excitement you feel right now. That is the same feeling you will get after you get your second, and the same one I get still today, 5 years since my first. This business can be tough, real tough. Prepare to be in the most under appreciated and disrespected positions on the planet, above maybe lawyers.

For me the biggest part is mental toughness and stress. I were a titanium necklace because I feel it helps me with stress, therefore helping my mental toughness. I am a very good salesman but even I cope with being a head case every once in a while. I lead the dealership month after month and then I go a few days without selling anything, and all of a sudden I am wondering if I forgot how to sell cars.

Hero to Zero as we call it where I work is another struggle. Tuesday you have 35 cars for the month and on Wed.(new month) Back to zero. That is mentally stressful and we haven't even gone into commissions yet.

My advice to you is to not worry about individual commissions, because it will drive you crazy. Just work hard all month and do your best and everything will just fall into place. I don't even ask my manager about commissions until almost the end of the month. A lot less burden on me that way.

My motto is just be honest and straight forward, and that way when people talk about slimy salesman, they will not be talking about you.

You will find your own way to deal with all the things that make your new job tough, and that high will happen every time you do what you did today.

Again congrats, I hope you will love it and be as passionate about it as I am. It can be very rewarding.
