Need some math help.
My mother is in college as well and I took this course a while back and don't really remember squat about it.
It is about finding the point of an intersection given 2 points using algebraic approach. Here are the problems. If you could break one down to me MM style I would appreciate it. Thanks. 1) 3x +4y=20 5x+4y=12 2) 4x +4y=20 3x-2y= -10 3) 2x+3y=12 4x+6x= 14 I learned it a completely different way, and with her notes I can't understand the way her teacher wants her to show the work. Thanks again math gurus.

Ugh... I haven't been in a math class in about 2 years. I vaguely remember how to do this. Hopefully someone can help you.

Tell me about it. I mean I can look at it for a sec and tell the points of intersection, I just forgot how to do the breakdown is all.

Solve each equation for y (slope-intercept form) then set each of the slope intercept equations equal to each other with only x terms, solve for x then sub x into either of the original equations to find y.

yeah just make the equations in each line equal to the same variable and then equal to each other:
3x+4y=20 5x+4y=12 4y=20-3x 4y=12-5x y=5-3/4x y=3-5/4x 5-3/4x=3-5/4x 2=-2/4x -4=x plug into original 3(-4)+4y=20 -12+4y=20 4y=32 y=8 i hope I didnt make any mistakes, but you get the idea

you are both correct!
solve for Y in one equation, plug it in the other. Then use that X value to plug in back to the original given equation from the equation before you solved for Y to find the corresponding Y value.
