People,

Can you recommend me a free hard drive mirror / cloning utility? I want to clone a 160 gig drive onto a 320 gig drive. The 160 has 2 partitions on it and I would like them both on the 320. One of the partitions is the factory backup partition.

So lost why not just plug them both into your computer and then drag X to the 320gig HD?

Its not that easy till. If its just a data drive it will work, but more than likely its got windows on it and it will not create a bootloader for the os.

Op I've had great luck with acronis, but it isn't free.

yeah, that is what I was going to buy but I figured I would check with the computer heads here

I am waiting to hear back from a guy that used to be my neighbor, he can probably do it for me.

Ace, what version are you using? I was looking at the 2011 version on amazon and wasnt thrilled with what some had to say. From what I understand, the symantic version worked great until they were bought out. I need it to be compatible with vista and win 7. My wifes machine is vista and my new one is win 7.

thank you but I already have a hard drive. I just need to mirror the small one on to the big one.

look for a free cloning software. Plug in the 2nd harddrive and clone from a to b. acronis is a paid one but its worth it.

yeah, I was going that route, looking for the free ones, but there are so many so I came here for advice on which one to use.

i have never used any free ones but be sure you do research. i know acronis doesnt like windows 7

You can use CloneZilla or Knoppix. I have to use Knoppix on a regular basis at work.

Ok homos and apiens, I got my new computer. Win 7 has a drive image function so I used it. I now have a drive image and a rescue disk. I don't quite know where to go form here. I have the image on the hard drive that I want to install.

The whole point of this is to install a 500 gig 7200 rpm drive in place of a 320 gig 5400 rpm unit.

Help a brotha out!!

I have been reading a ton of information that this guy puts out and I'm thinking that it may do some of you some good as well so I'll share

If you scroll to the bottom of his pos, there are other links to doing other stuff. basically I need to make myself a windows dvd, install it and use a copy of my backup partition if I want any of the crap that came on my computer.
