Altacat linux thunderbird halp

I am using mint and trying to install thunderbird

I get ubuntuzilla installed without any errors and I open the terminal and type "ubuntuzilla.py" in the terminal and I get this

Code:
Retrieving the version of the latest release of Firefox from the Mozilla website...
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/bin/ubuntuzilla.py", line 1331, in <module>
    bs.start()
  File "/usr/local/bin/ubuntuzilla.py", line 311, in start
    fi.start()
  File "/usr/local/bin/ubuntuzilla.py", line 354, in start
    self.install()
  File "/usr/local/bin/ubuntuzilla.py", line 764, in install
    self.getLatestVersion()
  File "/usr/local/bin/ubuntuzilla.py", line 956, in getLatestVersion
    self.releaseVersion = re.search(r'firefox\-(([0-9]+\.)+[0-9]+)',self.releaseVersion).group(1)
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'group'

How the fuck do you install this piece of shit?

Following this site
http://ubuntu-install.blogspot.com/2...untuzilla.html

I also tried to follow another write up that was poorly done. Dude was all over the place.

Ahhh I don't think you need to do the whole python thingy.

make sure all your software sources are open to the multiverse and universe and so on... In terminal do this...

sudo apt-get update && sudo aptitude install mozilla-thunderbird
you don't need to use ubuntuzilla on mint 9 since most software packages are already in the repositories unlike regular ubuntu.

Now If I can get my native resolution to work

TV native resolution is 1360x768 but when I put it on that it is too damn big for the screen.

Got any magic commands for that?

ehhhh resolutions huh? lemme see here. I know in Ubuntu you go to system > preferences > display and you should play with those settings there. Are you talking about a screen resolution that doesn't show up in those options?

When I click on that it forwards me to use my GTX260 graphics card tools and by default it is set to auto which is really huge. Like 800x600 would be on a windows machine just a little wider in the text. When I take it off auto and select 1360x768 it is too wide for my TV and I have tried to shrink it down with all my TV settings and still can not get it to fit on the screen.

hmmm well sheit. I guess you can go at it of one of two ways...

Assuming you have an Nvidia card, you might want to get it configured to the best drivers/settings.
Read this carefully:

Mint 9 = Ubuntu 10.04
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...erHowto/Nvidia

Or....

If you know what resolutions and refresh rates your video card and monitor/tv are capable of, you could try this.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1246309

I have not done it myself, but I must say that thread on with extreme caution, you could eff something up and have to redo everything

I found a driver that works but it says I have x-config running. Is there a way you can run mint at the command prompt before it loads the GUI OS? I know in back track you could type commands before it loaded and the command to actually start the GUI was "startx"

hmmm I guess if you want to try that you'd probably have to reboot the computer, get into grub menu and go into recovery mode kernel option thingy and boot into terminal as the options state there.

I believe you can get to your grub by holding down the shift key before it loads the OS.

edit:

you'll be brought into this screen

then you can choose root with shell prompt

Blahhh the build in driver says I had the last updated supported driver. I noticed in the monitor type, it has my LCD TV as a CRT monitor with no options to change it. I will stick with a little blurry 1152x864 for now. I think it either has to do with

not being able to change to LCD monitor cause the nvidia setup in windows let me choose tv, crt or lcd.

or its a freaking unchangeable overscan issue with an older cheap vizio TV.
