BEIJING—Chinese President Hu Jintao emphasized the need for cooperation with the U.S. in areas from new energy to space ahead of his visit to Washington this week, but he called the present U.S. dollar-dominated currency system a "product of the past" and highlighted moves to turn the yuan into a global currency.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong but on the world market, I believe that gas is sold in USD (US Dollar) amount and sold to other countries when they apply the currency exchange rate. So basically when they are getting less for their money, why keep using the USD when they can use something else? And what happens to the investors that have invested in oil in the US with the USD?

If the USD was ever replaced for something else, it wouldn't be a current currency. It'd be a new global currency.

That's kinda what I was thinking. In a "wipe the slate clean" kind of move. In the article it talked about some shit that happened in 09
