So I'm supposed to go to Wainwright Alberta this week... Usually we leave Monday, am home Friday night... we made it 1050 miles north before the truck, brand new unit I might add, shut down while rolling down the 2 lane transcanada hwy... with a frozen lake on our right, and the rocky Canadian shield to our left... it started again, and then shut down as we were turning left into a truck stop... leaving our rocket fuel trailer across both lanes of the transcanada. Been a clusterfuck trying to get the truck fixed... They made us double back 360 miles to Sault Ste Marie, where I sit now waiting for the truck to be fixed...

The new truck is not mine. It's another drivers unit who is on vacation, and we are only in it because my regular ride is also down.

It's beyond ridiculous what were going through with trucks.... the new emissions systems and complicated ECM systems are a nightmare... at out terminal, we have 8 sleeper units for the teams, and 2 daycab units for the single drivers.... Out of those 10 units, as of yesterday, 6 of them were down. In my 20 years of driving I've never seen anything like this

So I'm not getting home this week. The one solace is I've been getting paid by the hour since 9 pm Tuesday night. lol

There are some kooky details I'll go into more when I get home or onto a pc I can type on... and when my brain clears... remember through all this, I am carrying 13000 gallons of cryogenic rocket fuel that I alone am responsible for.... And it doesn't stay cold forever.

Yup, liquid hydrogen, which we sell to NASA to power the space shuttle, so yes, literally rocket fuel. Although it has a multitude of other uses.
No it doesn't work like that, we pump it off through vacuum jacketed double wall stainless hoses, and you never see it. Nor would you want to; it's extremely flammable... and it is 423 degrees below zero... Hypothetically were you to expose some to atmosphere, it would boil and evaporate immediately, as to a liquid that cold, even if it's -100f outside, it thinks that's a heatwave. lol

lol yes Jim was an awesome guy. 65 years old, been trucking since 1967. Hauling logs, wood, heavy machinery.... into the middle of deep northern tundra and forests. Jim made my 20 years of experience look like a joke. Lol

He had some amazing stories. And watching him bang through 18 gears in that Peterbilt like a hot knife through butter while he was pulling a tanker like mine which he had not pulled before, was pretty amazing.

In that vid, when I turn the camera to the right, that is lake Superior. One of the five great lakes.

And being a little cold woman ain't so bad when you have a big man to lay on top of you. Just to stay warm, of course. lol

lol i love old men who tell stories... I used to take care of old people so they wouldnt have to go to a nursing home and i loved the stories. It was def beautiful where you were even if it was cold, and give me two months and my big strong man wont ever have to leave me again

So I just got word from the Freightliner dealer here in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario that the truck likely will not be fixed today. Which means yet another night in a hotel room- although this time I'm in a great hotel that is brand new... swimming pool, hot tub, kickass showers, bigass workout room..... their treadmills even have lcd tvs on them.

I think I shall hit that up later on tonight.

Well ain't that some shit... Freightliner is telling me that they can't find anything wrong with the truck. I told them "Well you had better find something wrong, or get us a rental unit so I can go to work. Because i am not fucking breaking down again on the road- not side of the road, because there are no shoulders- ON the road, again, with a load of liquid hydrogen behind me while it's -30 outside, and we're so far north we don't even have cell service for long periods of time. So figure something out. "

Fuck sakes. Meanwhile, my trailer full of liquid hydrogen is sitting there slowly building pressure... and guess who is responsible for that. It's not the dispatchers, it's not the mechanics, it's not my supervisor, it's me. Legally, by the law, me.

And oh yeah by the way I'm also training a guy.

Damn Zip, sorry to hear that. At least you have a nice hotel. I broke the gears out of my rear end last month and got payed to play video games on my phone for 4 hours. Gotta love the breakdown pay. I still got home that night though, it totally sucks that your not gonna make it home at all this week now. Sometimes extra pay just doesn't equal out with good home time. Keep your chin up man.
