Lefty and I went to the same community college. If you're looking for a cheap way to get a certificate, do the community college. Honestly though, i hated the community college. I didnt learn much at all. I work at a shop, and i have learned more in the year and a half there, than i did in the 2 years i did college.

I do have a friend that is going to UTI here in PA and he's learned a lot, but i'm sure he'd still learn a lot more being in the actual work field.

As for money, i work at a small shop that is also a full service gas station. I made about 23,000 in the past year there, and with the raise i just got, i'll make around 29,000. We also have a 24 hour towing service, and all of the towing money isnt counted into that (about 3-4K extra). I'm comfortible with what i make, although i know i could make more if i were to go to a dealership, but i HONESTLY could NOT be happier with where i work and what i do. I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, thinking about what i might have to do that day. We work on anything from 1962 Rolls Royce's to tractors, Motorcycles and rollbacks. Also, we have A/C in the shop, which keeps me super happy in the summer.

BUT, if I was your age, I would do things VERY different.

First choice... Some type of government job.
I have 2 friends that became NYC cops.
I have another 20+ years before I can even think of retiring.. both my buddies will retire in the next year or 2 with FAT pensions.

Second Choice.
go to school for plumbing, or electrical.
I have another friend that works in the plumbing union on LI. He makes $125k a year, before side jobs.

Anyway, just my .02

Good luck with your decision.
This this this. Gov is the way to go, do mechanics on the side. Working in the auto industry is killing my love for cars.

But when it's all said and done, do whatever you want to really.

They dont teach you how to spell there, its just shop classes, unless you go for a degree. I'm too dumb and impatient to go for a degree.

I justa graduated UTI last march in AZ yea it's a great school and like they said if you want to learn you will bro but ASK ASK ASK questions don't be afraid to... I was afraid to and still ask on here a couple questions, but if your looking just to work on Fords I would look into ther ASSET program bro a dealership has to sponsor you.. I didn't hear of this till recently I would have gone this route
