gettin a 4x4 eploder!

for free! getting it from my mother-in-law's good friend. there is something wrong with it right now... not sure what it is though. my bro-in-law (a mechanic) is going to look at it sometime this week and find out what the problem is. apparently it has no body damage on it or anything. the exploder is on kodiak, so i have no pics of it, and wont get it for a few months... that does solve my issue of having to get a 4x4 for alaska!

i believe it is a 97, but dont quote me on that. i also dont know what engine it has in it, but it is a stick shift. my mother-in-law isnt very knowledgeable about vehicles so i cant really get the details. all i know is i dont have to worry about trying to find a good deal on a 4x4, i get this one for free... aside for repair costs (will do the work with my bro-in-law), and registration!

Probably a 4L. Most, if not all older Exploders came with 4Ls. My step dad keeps telling me he's going to give me his 94 Ranger, but ist still not in my driveway, so i'm not going to hold my breath

im just glad that solves one issue with getting a new 4x4 in kodiak. all i gotta do is make sure its running. the current owner has a brand new vehicle, and just wants to get rid of the exploder... she said shed give it to my mother-in-law if she wanted it... and she immediately called us. so the owner is gonna hand over the title to my mother-in-law and ill have an explorer when i get to kodiak... my 4x4 problems are solved!

Honest assessment?

My wife's I've only had for a couple months. So far, despite the high mileage, it'ss *knock wood* been flawless.

Mine, in the middle of it's second winter, has it's issues, needs exhaust, had a brake line blow, a power steering line and cooler go, and it needs a front driveshaft..... but, *knock wood* it runs like a top despite an intake manifold gasket leak.... goes through anything.... even with the leaky exhaust & intake gasket.... gets 18-20 mpg in the snow.... starts right up when it's minus 30 out..... so despite a few minor to medium issues, I only paid 1200 for it.... and have about an additional grand in it over 2 winters.... I would say I'd do it again.

Nice man... Congrats. I have had a 95, 98, and 06 (still have ) explorers and everyone of them has treated me great. The only issue I ever had with them was the hood latch cable snapped on the 95 but I just carried a pair of pliers and opened the hood at the lever. Other than typical maintenance I never had a single issue with any of them.

Been driving mine pretty much daily for 12 years or so. Its been fairly good to me although I do have some things wrong with it right now. Really though it is my winter beater so I'm not too worried about it.
