What is your waterbill for ~ 4 people?

We just got a bill that said we used 7900 gallons for 31 days. That's 254.84 gallons a day. Where? I shower like every 4 days, and do laundry (2 loads) once every two weeks and run the dishwasher every 3 or 4 days.

We don't wash clothes every fucking day of the month, we don't run the dish washer every day, the toilets don't run or leak. Where am I averaging 254 gallons a day?

They might have gone a month where they skipped reading the meter... This has happened to me in the past where they couldnt get to it for a reading and my next bill was doubled up.

I live on my own so I cant tell you what it should be, but mine is no where close to a quarter of that ( and I bath twice a day and do laundry every three days ).

EDIT:
Found this online. Its suppose to be the average usage for a household

· Toilet - 19 gallons per day
· Bathing & hygiene - 15 gallons per day
· Laundry - eight gallons per day
· Kitchen - seven gallons per day
· Housekeeping - one gallon per day

The lady at the water department said that was normal

How many people on average have a leak in the service line then?

I don't know how many gallons we use a month, but my water bill is always less than $10/month for 2 people.

You might open up the water meter and take a reading at a certain time. Then don't use water for 6+ hours and go read the meter again. Obviously, it should read the same. If it doesn't, you have a leak somewhere. Using that many gallons, it shouldn't be hard to find the leak.

I would think with a reading like that if you had a leak you would already know about it. You would either have a massive amount of water accumulating in your house or you would have a new pool in your front/back yard ( depending on where your water comes in from ).

Another thing you can look at is to compare the ending reading they show versus what the meter actually says. There was a problem locally over the summer where a companys meter was read wrong and they got a $20k bill for that month. It ended up being a transposed number on the reading and it was corrected.

I think the real question that everyone is ignoring is why/how do you only shower every 4 days???

Haha I was paying 100/month for just me and my fiance. Apparently we had a leak. I moved because I was also getting $280 power bills where it should be about $160

Not sure of the gallons used last month but the bill was $125 and this one is $135

Sewer is like $77 of it. Not sure how they calculate that. I think they just guess and stab you wherever.

Yup, water bill is under $10/month. I just give them $100 at a time and let it go until they need more money. Keep in mind, I'm in the country so I'm not hooked up to city sewer. Everything drains through my septic or gray water systems.

Water is DIRT CHEAP here. Hence why I think it's dumb to pay an additional $300 for a washing machine that uses 1/2 the amount of water.

I was just calculating that as well. Someone correct me if I am wrong but even in the city I think it's not looking so good. Maybe my numbers are fucked.

Say we sell our old top loader for $150 and buy home depots cheapest front loader at $590 so we are at -$440

Top loader 40gal cost us $98.67 a year to operate vs a front 22gal loader would cost us $54.27 a difference of $44.40 a year.

-$440 new wash cost/$44.40 a year savings = 9.9099 years before you save money on the water usage side of it.

I Did not calculate the sewage and electricity use of it. Sewage cost about $20 more than the water does and not sure how they calculate it.
