2000 GT Vs. Integra Type-R

Thought this was cool, and decided to share it.....

I was reading an old issue of Sport Compact Car (Nov. '00) and they had a shootout between a brand new, fully optioned '00 GT and a '00 Acura Integra Type-R. Both cars were approx $24K as tested, and they tested them on 2 different track road courses, skidpad and dragstrip.

At first, they made fun of how unrefined and unpredictable the Mustang was with it's front strut/solid rear axle chassis. They praised how great the Acura felt and how it was a true, sophisticated driving machine. They couldn't even make the first lap around the course in the Mustang without losing control. After several laps, they learned how steer the GT with the throttle and were amazed at how fun it was to drive and the lack of understeer. After timing both cars, they were surprised to find the Mustang actually ended up 2.6 seconds per lap FASTER than the Acura Type-R!
Because they were self-admittedly biased toward imports, they shortened the track, took out the long straight-aways and added more turns & twisties. The goal was to eliminate the Mustang's distinct power advantage. This time the Acura was indeed faster per lap...but only by .36 seconds!
When it came to straight line acceleration, the Stang pretty much dominated. They pulled a 14.2 quarter with the GT compared to the Acura's 14.7. The Acura did top the Stang in slalom, braking & skidpad, but the Stang was still competitive.

No doubt the Acura is a wonderful car, and much more refined, but considering the GT chassis is a derivative of the original FOX developed in 1978, The Stang actually impressed them. In the total scope of the shootout, they declared it a dead heat.

The import market is after the Mustang cause it's the cheap car to beat. It's an old article but the same thing goes today. The import market is desprit for a peice of of what Ford is offering. A cheap, fast car that performs.

lol it's also an easy target because high school students get their hands on them and do retarded things with them. As unfortunate as it is, the SN95 Mustang is like the Honda Civic of the muscle car world.

I dunno about most people, but I have nothing against a nicely done ITR...they are indeed quick cars, yes, not as fast as the Mustang, but definitely not your average grocery getter either.

Even a run of the mill civic thats done up nicely, I can appreciate. What pisses me off though is most Honda people....the guys running around with Type R's usually will look at a nice Mustang and say "hey man nice car...wanna check out a Type R?" but the ones with D-Series Hondas/Integras that throw ebay parts on their car and act like its the fastest thing on 4 wheels...fucking hell they make me mad.

I hate those magazines. Every time that I glance at one, I want to burn it. Nice to know that the 2000 GT embarrassed the Type-R on their own track.
