Thoughts on Nursing?

There's a great demand for male nurses and starting pay Is 59k a year In Oklahoma for RN's that's what I want to be, always In demand I've seen my Mom be laid off because of the economy and I don't want that weight on my shoulders when the economy Is in the toilet. Is anyone on here a nurse and could give me some information In what all of your responsibilities are In the hospital. Thanks

I am in nursing school... i was a CNA and a HHA ....... as far as responsibilities .. you keep up with the chart communicate with the doctors pharmacy dietary and make a schedual and a plan for that patient you have to communicate with the change shift nurse...ummm you have to pass out meds... make sure each med that hte patient is taking wont conflict with the others. If you are a GOOD nurse which most arent you will empty full caths change out colostomy bags .. you have to do caths and clean caths ... some of which is CNA work but they get overloaded... There is more but basically you are in charge of that persons day to day and a median between them and the doctors. Its a lot of hard work and a lot of school and you have to really have a love and desire to help other people.

sorry about the lack of paragraphs but o well lol ...

My wife is a nurse. Job duties will also change depending on what field you want to get into. She is working labor and delivery now and she loves it. She has also worked intermediate care which I guess is just below critical care. But there are many different fields you can get into; ER, OR, etc. and they all have different pay scales. Yes the schooling is long but I think it is one of the most personally rewarding careers. One nice thing about her job is she self schedules and only works 3 days a week (3-12 hour shifts is full time at her hospital) with 4 days off. I would kill for 4 days off a week, do you know how much golf I could play with a schedule like that!

What you need to do then is come to my University. I work for the office of admissions on top of being a student so I know a little too much about every program. hahahaha.

UNC here in Greeley has one of the best Nursing schools in the entire United States. It's very competitive, but once you're in and working hard, there's no looking back. Last year, more than 95% of our nursing graduates found work within 6 months of graduation. Hospitals are wanting more an more BSN's than RN's, and our program ensures that for you. Not to mention, Northern Colorado Medical Center, Banner Health, and Medical Center of the Rockies are all MAJOR medical centers that are down the block from campus, and LOVE to hire UNC Nursing majors.

What you do is come in as a Pre-Nursing major, take a number of your LAC (Liberal Arts Core) credits as well as your pre-nursing classes for the first two years, and then you apply to get into the Nursing program at the end of your sophomore year. You have to have been a CNA for at least 6 months before being admitted into the program as well. The program also does not accept any grade below a C in any class. C-'s are considered failing for the program. You then finish up your BSN within those last two years, completing all your clinicals, etc. and then you're 100% set and ready.

Check it out bud.

My mom is an RN, she loves it and its rough sometimes. The pay is good and is it a job that will always need people. Its a good career to choose. Helping people and great pay is a good choice
