That motor has actually been out for a while now. The reason you prbably havent seen too many is because they are mainly for industrial use. Theyre usualy in box vans 3/4 and 1 ton pickups etc..

Ive been looking at the F 250 SDs and have talked with several salesmen. They all claim that the V 10 actually gets better gas mileage then the V8s. The reasons they say is b/c instead of 8 big pistons and 8 big intake runners etc., they are able to make everything smaller (pistons, intake, exhaust runners etc.). It sort of makes sense but not really. Yeah, theyre smaller but there are more of them so it kind of evens out. IDK I want the Powerstroke Diesel anyways.

yeah there 6.8L V10's but they dont get the HP and TQ the SRT 10 trucks have. i think the SRT 10's are 8.3L 505 CI. but they are Viper engines. the triton V10 gets some where around 310 HP and somewhere around 425TQ and are 415CI. but the 2006 SD F series triton V10's are having around 360 HP and around 460 TQ. cant wait for them to come out. i love trucks.

my triton 5.4 has 180,000 miles and i think it just went over the hill, you can easily pull 300,000 out of a triton

Not sure exactly what the stats are on the powerstroke but I wanna say I remember hearing something like @700 ft lbs of torque!! Thats monstrous!! The only thing that worries me about the powerstroke is that its a V8 instead of an inline motor. That is the only thing that would sway me towards the cummins.

B/c in a V8 the pistons "lay" on the lower side of the block and that will cause them to wear the cylinder walls on the lower side causing an "egg shaped" cylinder wall. It would be ok if the powerstroke were a sleved motor but its not. In the inline motor, the pistonss sit straight up and down so there is no wear on one side more than the other. Plus, to my knowledge, the cummins is a sleved motor so If it ever does wear out All you do is change the sleves instead of replace the entire block.

Boss, i thought it was vice-versa... I was always under the impression that the powerstroke was a sleved motor, and the cummins was not.. could be wrong though

Maybe neither of them is but I know that the powerstroke isnt. When I was in Memphis they had an entire vendors booth dedicated to the F series. There was a cutaway of every motor used in any F series truck and the powerstroke was the first one I checked out. It was not sleeved. I spoke with the rep. too and he said that they are not sleeved. Ive been doing a little homework on this b/c I want to know all before I actually buy. :wink

haha. V-10's deff. do not get better gas milage. Ask anyone who has owned the 2. The V-10's are terrible on gas, but who would care when you can tow so much more. Not just anyone buys the V-10 thats why there are not many on the road, most people actually need them. I had a V-10 in with a 6speed and 4.30 gears i had to put a plow on one. It was crazy driving.
