I ride mine in the middle of the night when I'm drunk too... except I drive down the street and on an I-10 access road.. with no lights...

....and it has a hopped up 200cc engine on it (I built the engine), and will just about keep up with the cars on I-10.

Start with shitty Chinese built Harbor Freight Honda GX200 "clone".... (Lifan, a Chinese company, literally stole Honda's patented blueprints for these GX200 engines and built them with cheap labor, then sold them at Harbor Freight dirt cheap)

Tear it down and build an indestructible engine... 'tis what I did.
(not my engine, but it's damn near identical.. the goodies are within )

Ever heard of the Jr.Dragsters? They primarily run Briggs and Stratton 5HP engines... but the same companies make parts for these engines... that is, the Honda GX200 engines... but the parts are a LOT cheaper, and they all fit in the cheap Chinese Harbor Freight engines (they are "clones" of the genuine Honda engines, remember).

interesting. I may do this one day when I need a project. My mini bikes body is flawless, but everything else needs replacement

Here's my minibike.. before I put the Honda clone engine on it. It's a 1960's K&S Hornet frame.

Here are some updated pics.. finally.

It's dirty.. but what can I say? I spend a lot more time riding it than cleaning it.

And that part that is on the left side of the engine with the belt on it.. that is a torque converter. Instead of a simple centrifugal clutch, I put that on there.. it's a variable drive. The pulleys change diameter to provide a low and an overdrive ratio as the engine RPM changes. It's the same setup that Polaris uses on their Sportsman ATVs and Rangers, but it's a scaled down version of it.
