Meh, E9x's just don't do it for me like E46's and E36's. I think it's the personality of the drivers who think they are God's greatest gift to motoring. I'd honestly take an E36 over an E9x if given a choice of the two. It's so much more a driver's car than a luxury barge.

Honestly, I hate the E36 lol, Love the E46 (hate that first gen SMG tranny though), but I Love the E9x's though...They got the SMG down pat on it too... and finally getting smart enough to put the V8 back into it.

Well, the next gen is going to a V6 (blasphemy!) and ditching the two extra cylinders in favor of some FI. The E36 is boxy and not visually appealing, but I'm more about the driving experience than anything else with cars, really, so it works for me. I never drove the E9x M3, so I can't be totally sure if it's lost all the magic as some reviewers seem to think, but the E46 has it in droves. That was a great car to drive (I wanted one really badly when my friend let me drive his). It did everything perfectly as far as I was concerned. Then of course, I test drove an E39 M5, and my god, it was like the M3 on steroids. It had everything it's little brother had, but with so much more torque on top of it all. Either way, I never used SMG, nobody I knew that had one of these cars had an automagic transmission. I don't know if I'd have fallen in love with them if I couldn't downshift and listen to that beautiful I6 song.

The SMG is a blast to drive. Before I got the TL-S, I was looking at E46's... I wanted the SMG. My neighbor has an '01 E46 SMG and I love the thing.

Is it just an automatic or is it sequential shifting? Also, what made you decide on a TL over the E46?! I guess I can't be too surprised, I wouldn't want to see what the maintenance costs on M series cars are...

E46 M3's are hands down one of my favorite cars of all time. I've only driven a 330ci, but I still know I want to own one some day.

Having driven both the 330 and M3, let me tell you, they are worlds apart. The M3 is an animal.

Everybody in their mother thought theirs was this shit. They always were asking way more than what it should have been worth.
