Oh man... to be your age, and size... how quickly I could progress on the bench... it's taken me about 2 years to go from 80 pounds to 150 on the bench. Although to be fair for a while I was hesitant to go over 100 until I recently bought a proper bench. But yeah.

Zip are you serious? Only 150lb hopefully kilos. I can still go to a bench and put up 225 and I haven't worked out since 2007.

Lil, yes that thing is dog slow. Lol. He has an airhorn in the front too. Such a small world. I'm sure they saw me out there lol. I actually saw them headed there when I was turning onto 85 to bypass 231 traffic.

That's not my max, but yes I'm serious. Dylan, go drive truck for 24 years, smoke for 20 of those, put on 60 pounds, and then get back to me.

Now, I can do 3 sets of 10 with 150, so I'm sure my 1 -3 rep max is higher than 150. But I'm 42 years old, not 22.

Nono dude, didn't take it like that at all.

Listen, when you've been sedentary for 20 years and smoked for those years, you'd be surprised how bad it can get. If you don't start smoking and stay active, you still won't understand in 20 years, and that's a good thing.

But Dylan, 6 years ago, I was 260 pounds as a six footer. On a whim while I was doing a delivery late one night, I dropped down and I could not do 10 pushups. I did 10 body weight squats, and I was literally bent over the fender of the trailer gasping for breath. That was my 'Holy Fuck I need to do something' moment.

I've gone from that to being smoke free for 3 years (this coming April), I'm down to 215, and I can do 3 sets of 30 pushups, the aforementioned improvements in bench work, and my legs have seen the biggest gains. I've gone from those 10 body weight squats destroying me, to what I did literally just 2 hours ago (leg day today), 3 sets x10 of deadlifts with 140 pounds, 3 sets x10 of squats with 140 pounds, and 2 sets x10 of lunges with 50 lb dumbbells. My arms have come around as well; back then I couldn't do 2 sets of 10 with 20lb dumbbells, now I do 3 sets x10 on an ez-curl bar @ 75 lbs, followed by 3 sets x5 of hammer curls with a 50 lb dumbbell. (JUST graduated to the 50 pounder 2 weeks ago)

When I'm on the road I blast 35 pounders in each arm, and I now absolutely kill those and am ready to step up there as well. Quite often I do back to back sets with the 35s and a pair of 20s- meaning I will do a set of 12 reps with the 35s, both arms at once some days, alternating arms some days, and then immediately drop those, and pick up the pair of 20s, and curl those to failure. I do 3 sets of standard curls, 3 sets of hammer curls, and 3 sets of concentration curls, so 9 sets, 3 each with the 35s, immediately followed by the 20s in each set.... so really, 18 sets. That is a SHIT pile of arm work, a LONG way from where I was 6 years ago.
