Wanting opinions on a GT500
I've had my car now for a little over a year. It took a while, but I've really got the power bug now. I've been dicking around here and there, but now I'm really wanting a blown stang.
So here's the thing I'm wanting some honest feedback on: I owe 10 grand on my car right now. I know that I could get 15 for it easy, probably as much as 18K. That would give me close to 8 grand to put on a used GT500. I was looking at 07-10 GT500's today and they are 40 thousand and less for a convertible, which I want. I'm wondering, if I'm planning on paying around 5 grand for a s/c this spring, would that money be better spent coupling it with what I could get for my car and getting the GT500? My payments would be about the same but it would add years to my note. I'm paying a little over 600 a month now cuz it's only a three year note. I'd have to go to a five year, but I don't mind a car payment. I'm just wondering if I'll ever really be happy with the 4.6 ltr motor, ya know? Y'all give me some serious feedback on this. I'd like to hear your opinions. If I got an 07 or 08, I could put a lot of my stuff back to stock and hang on to it too. Just a thought. Looking forward to what you have to say. Reps for all serious opinions. Thanks

a convertible will cost more than a coupe, just letting you know on that
a gt500 is a blast to drive around. if you don't mind paying the car payments for a couple more years, you should get it. you could still find one with a warranty. i still have about 2 years left on mine.

If you have the money, then do it. GT500's are awesome man...i'd rather have a GT500 then a blown gt. But i'd get a coupe lol

It's not about money necessarily. It's about value for the money. And the convertible is just my preference. I know they are heavier, but I love being able to pop that top off.

This is not a "today" thing. I always mull things over. Probably in the spring is when I'll feel comfortable enough to make that type of commitment.

07-09 GT500s are in a totally different world from 05-09 S197 GTs. Every single aspect of the GT500s just seems better. The lines of the car, the interior, the prestige of having a Shelby, the Shaker 1000, and absolutely the horsepower that comes with the supercharged 5.4L. Its my fault that my folks ended up trading their '09 GT500 for their new 2011 Roush 5XR. The Roush has more horsepower and its nicer and everything, but not a day goes by that them and I both don't miss that Shelby. It just had this simplistic, old muscle car feel to it that was so easy to fall in love with. I have one bit of advise though, if you do end up getting one and you fall in love, for the love of god, do not get rid of it.

If you can afford it, get one. Remember you'll probably pay a bit more on insurance as well. However, the only thing that a GT500 has a handicap to a GT in is weight. That is easily overcome by adding more power. Which is REAL easy to do with a GT500.. GT500 + VMP Tune, CAI, Pulley package + Suspension = BONER.
P.S. - I had the Shaker 1000 in my GT, If I had to do it all over again I'd order the base stereo and do a custom install. Better results for around the same price. |

Dude.. I feel your pain... I got offer's from $9,000-$11,000 for mine... I ended up getting close to $1,5000 for it. Which was pretty much what it was worth with 80K miles on it in barely fair condition. I'd hope you'd get at least $18 or $19,000 for yours.

Another dealer said $21,000 but I want like $24,000. KBB is $20,000 for dealer. $22,000 for private.

One thing to remember is that in the eyes of a dealer after market mods drop the value of a car not increase it.

Scenario.. Someone comes to the dealer looking at Roushes, Shelbys and finds out they are way too expensive for them. Than they see my car on the lot that looks good, better parts, more power, etc and they can afford it. I was already told by one of the dealers that they would put my car on the lot for $29,900 and figured they would get $27,000 - $28,000.
