With that being said, there are plenty of occasions where we go above and beyond to get a replacement out to the customer sight-unseen without waiting for claims from the shipping company, etc.

Your experience with us is really uncommon, and that bothers me. Hit me up via PM or just reply back and let me know what we can do to fix whatever it was we did in the past!

Ok, so with all of these problems known (about how UPS/FedEx handles packages) shouldn't something like gears be packaged a bit better? Or any fragile part for that matter. I mean, the teeth were so badly chipped because there was only a thin layer of cardboard between the teeth on the gears and whatever it bashed into on the way to my house. The styrofoam didn't protect enough of it. Maybe place it in a plain cardboard box with some packing peanuts or something. Not the same box that Ford sends it to yall's warehouse in. Small things like that could save somebody a lot of time and problems.
My throttle body was also shipped in the same box that you would see it packaged in on the shelf of an auto parts store. Not good.

Aside from the packaging, yall's customer service is great. And, c'mon, you can't beat free tunes for life.

If only more care was taken with how things were boxed, it would be amongst the best places for aftermarket parts.

Ford Racing packages the gears themselves, and we do look at statistics showing how many of a certain item that goes out get damaged by the shipping companies. If that ratio gets too high, it throws red flags. To chip the tooth off of a solid metal ring or pinion, through a cardboard box and thick styrafoam, to me - says that thing got TOSSED off of the truck! I will try and see what we can do about packaging them within another box (we do this a lot for vendors who provide cheap boxes) - but we sell hundreds of FRPP 4.10's and 3.73's each week, and the # of claims is south of half a percent for that item.

Keep in mind that the manufacturer is responsible for making packaging that would be acceptable for shipment. Some of them squeak by the "acceptable" level, and we know who they are - and sometimes re-box them as they come in or double-box them on the way out. We're really trying to crack down on this stuff, but sometimes it's out of our hands. We ship thousands of packages a day, and we put all of our effort into making sure they get out safely and timely.

I will make that recommendation, and I'm really sorry that you had to be the one with shipping damage. We'll always do everything in our power to correct it and keep our customers happy. I'll have to take a video over at the warehouse some time to show you the operation - these guys DO take care of the products we ship. Unfortunately, in your case - it seems like it really got manhandled during transit. Hit me up and I'll give you a nice discount off of your next order for the trouble.

True, about the styrofoam protecting "most" of the part. The best way to see what I'm talking about would be to open up a box of the 4.10 gears for the 05-09 Mustang GT. The tips of the teeth are sharp and kinda thin...and it's that part that is not protected by the styrofoam and is susceptible to damage. Nothing a grinder couldn't fix, but not something that puts my mind at ease when the part is as important and is used as heavily as the gears are.
I do understand that when you ship that many packages per day, things will slip through the cracks, and those a-holes at FedEx certainly are to blame. And many people would agree that the fact y'all make it right as quickly as you do certainly helps when things like this happens.

Yeah, the way that the FRPP gears are packed are usually decent, but I can see where if someone was pretty aggressive with it during shipping and handling between our warehouse and your door, it could hit the metal. The way they used to be packed was the gears were sandwiched and recessed in between two styrofoam pieces that filled the box. This way, even if you got through the cardboard, you had to get through a few inches of styrofoam. I'll make sure that if that's not the way they're still being packed, we handle that ASAP!

I can completely see how taking a grinder to gears with a sensitive wear pattern and tight tolerances would be unpleasant, LOL. In a situation like that, I would have overnight-ed you a new set and opened up a claim with the shipping company, who would have picked up the damage set. That way, you get your gears and WE deal with the shipping claim waiting game and the crap that goes along with it.

Sorry again, and hit me up if you need anything at all!

I got my FRPP gears from AM in a "double sandwich" of styrofoam, and the were fine. In fact, everything I've ordered from AM came to me in good shape. However, everything I get is shipped UPS.

In the past, I ordered a cowl hood for my F-150; it shipped FedEX and came to me with a huge f*(&king dent right in the crease at the edge of the cowl rise. I think FedEX has incredibly lax policies in their hubs when it comes to package handling.

Awesome! Glad to know that they were okay!

There's nothing more frustrating than getting something damaged at your door. I've had it happen to me before, and I know how it kills the excitement of a new mod! We try and keep that rush going by fixing it ASAP!

Chris
