Real Nervous for Friday....

This Friday I will be having surgery done on my stomach to help my acid reflux. I've had terrible acid reflux since I was probably 12 years old. I would wake up in the middle of the night with stomach acid coming out of my nose it got so bad. I have never had surgery before or even been put under so I am extremely nervous. The surgery is supposed to last like 3 to 4 hours and I gotta stay overnight. I may sound like a whoose but i'm not one who likes to hang around hospitals lol. my mustang build will also be put on hold for a couple weeks too. I have a week for recovery so I will be lurking the MM forums alot lol. That is all,

nIcK

What are they doing surgery wise? I have acid reflux (not as bad as yours) and my uncle did as well...he had surgery about 5-6 years ago, and for lack of a better description they kinda tied things in a knot to stem the flow of acid...anything similar to what you're having done?

As for the hospital stay, being put under for the first time is just weird (not painful its just...different. lol). They have you hooked up to an IV and when they put the anesthesia in you kinda feel it warming in your arm, then you're waking up in recovery...simple as that.

Good luck man!

Damn I have acid reflux pretty bad too. When I had health insurance and could get my Nexium, I could eat chips n salsa followed by orange juice and sweet tarts before bed with absolutely no problems. Anyone with acid reflux would cringe just thinking about that lol. Mine is sometimes so bad, it makes me throw up a little like in my throat...fuckin nasty. In 2012, my insurance kicks back. Can't wait.

Good luck with the surgery man.

Good news, my uncle who had that surgery can now eat whatever the fuck he wants with no pain, AND he's a singer (acid reflux can kill vocal chords) and his voice is stronger than ever

Bad news, recovery is, if I remember correctly, 3-4 months I COULD BE WRONG lol

Whatever the recovery is, just go through it knowing that it will get better...good luck man

Good luck man. I've had 2 surgeries and neither were all that bad. Once they hit you with the sedative, you'll wake up and wonder why they didn't give you enough and when they're going to start the surgery (even though it's already done). When you get to go home, take your pain meds as soon as you can. If you don't, you'll probably be close to tears from the pain. Keep taking them routinely for a few days and you probably won't feel hardly any pain through the whole thing.

Don't worry about it too much man (definitely easier said than done!) but it's thankfully not too uncommon of a procedure. My wife had a nissen fundoplication done years and years ago and it helped her. They can do surgeries like this laparoscopically now, is that what you're getting?

I have been put under 3 or 4 times now, the first time i was put under it felt like less than seconds that i was out, waking up i was pretty messed up, i guess the amount they put in you works for a certain length of time and i guess they were done early so i still had to wake up to respond to things yet had all this in my system, it was crazy, the other few times it took the correct amount of time so i woke up like it was a normal waking thing. I'll be going under the knife for Major surgery maybe next year sometime myself, I'm nervous as hell too because this is major surgery, we usually end up psyching ourselves out over something that is not near as bad as were making it out to be.

Lol no recovery time seems to only be like 1 to 2 weeks. I can only have liquids the first week and extremely soft foods the next.

Yes this will be a laparoscopically. 5 main puncture points is all they are doing, so no stitches for me
