So here's the thing....

Short back story:
we used to rent the bedroom downstairs to this guy who recently graduated college, ( a private catholic college my fiance used to work at) hes a good guy, Hes pretty responsible, never gave us any trouble or anything.

Hes getting married on New Years eve, and we are attending his wedding/reception.

Now here's the thing..

He wants to borrow my fiances 68 mustang, this car has a built 302, it runs low 13's on old street tires, if it were to have slicks it would easily be in the 12s. So its not like "OMG FAST!" but its pretty damn powerful car....This car also doesn't currently have any type of Rev limiter. ( it had a MSD, but it busted and we haven't gotten a new one yet)

Hes totally a good guy, I have no problems with him but he drives a geo ( its the 4 cyl one that looks like a 90's toyota corolla) He isn't used to this type of car at all, and you have to understand that you don't even have to be speeding or anything to lose control of a powerful car,all it takes is a little maneuver that is no big deal in a small little geo..well it turns into a BIG mess in something with a shit ton of power.

The drive from the Church the the reception site is roughly 30 minutes away... He wants to borrow the car all day, drive it to the church, and to the reception site and then back home.... On New Years Eve.

I am 100% against this deal, my fiance on the other hand seems to be ok with it for the most part. I've spent most of the night talking to my fiance about how its a bad idea, but now I am just sounding like a crazy ass bitch, going on and on about it lol. This mustang was his first car at 16 years old ( hes 30 now) I know its his car and ultimately his decision, but I feel like maybe I'm being too crazy about this ? I'd love to chill out but something about this just doesn't sit right with me.

Nobody borrows my cars. You want a cool one, rent one, or buy one, or fuck off! That choice is up to you.

^That, especially with that kind of power too. I'm sure the guy is a good driver and all but anything could happen of course so i'm definitely on your side with this. Not to mention with it being a 68 things would feel alot different driving wise than borrowing something else. And if it has no power steering or power brakes that makes it twice as nerve racking letting someone else drive it. I'm sure it probably has those though but still i'd be against this as well.

I think if anyone borrows a car they are going to test its limits. I agree let him rent a car.

Yea, I wouldn't let any of my friends drive my car out of my sight! I may not own anything special but it's my pride and joy, your fiance must be a really nice guy to loan someone his car like that. I wouldn't even let anyone borrow my truck, I just know how shit happens and when it does the person that borrowed your stuff just goes "Umm, sorry!"

It does not have power steering, but it does have power brakes. So yeah, that is another concern.

Then slap your fiance for considering this. There is very little correction time when loosing control of a car period. But if this guy has never had manual steering then don't let him drive that car. If he lost traction and never had the feeling of correcting manual steering kiss that car goodbye because it's more than likely going to get wrecked if that situation occurred.

Can't believe I'm gonna agree with a Packers fan, but I agree nobody borrows my car or truck, unless you really trust the guy and even then i would still say if there is even a chance of snow or rain then that guy can screw off

Edit: just saw that it doesnt have power steering then no god damn way in hell would i let him borrow it

I wouldn't. Absolutely not. But that's just me.

The only 2 people besides me who are allowed to drive my cars, truck, or my bike are my brother and my dad. My mom is allowed to drive my truck (and I'd rather she didn't), but that's it.

What I would be willing to do, however, is act like a chauffeur.. he and his bride could ride in the back while I drove them around for their wedding day. I'm sure the bride/groom wouldn't enjoy this as much, but that's all I would be willing to do.

im not a fan of people borrowing my mustang, not that i dont trust them but everytime a friend of mine gets in my car they want me to haul ass, so i would be safe to assume they would do it them self if they had the chance.

if your buddy wants to barrow my sweet new truck he can. i let people borrow it cause it is funny

I would let a close friend drive my car with me in it, but I wouldn't let anyone other than my mom or dad drive it without my supervision. I'm sure he would try to be extremely careful, but on your wedding day your not exactly concentrating like you normally would.

I personally wouldn't be for this idea, but since its your fiance's pride and joy and hes for it, I would trust his judgement.

And does your friend plan on not drinking? You said he wants to drive it back from the reception...I could not imagine NOT getting wasted on my wedding day let alone new years..

My parents have a '98 Metro with a 3 cylinder.. it doesn't have power steering, but it is absolutely NOTHING like a big car without power steering.

My dad's 1969 SS 396 Chevelle does not have power steering.. he actually ordered it that way from the factory. If you have the wheels centered, you have to turn the steering wheel about 8 times in either direction in order to reach the lock. The non-power-steering steering boxes have a lower ratio.. meaning you have to turn the steering wheel a lot more, but it is easier to turn.

The geo is rack and pinion, and it's a quick ratio... nothing like the older cars. They can get away with this because they don't have anywhere near the amount of weight over the front end as the larger cars.
