Odd question

Alright, I know this is all...subjective to you but I'm curious to see other opinions. ANYWAYS, I have a strange fascination...almost obsession I guess you could say with the 60's and 70's, to the point I'd sell my soul if it meant it were possible for me to go back and live through those two decades...and I'm 21, ahah.

Question is: What do you think made those two decades so memorable and if you were around then, I'm sure you didn't know it would be remembered like it is, but in retrospect what are your favorite things about that time period? It just seems like a hell of a time to be a young adult during that time. I mean think about all the amazing, timeless music that if it weren't for the drugs we wouldn't have, think about all the reform going on in the States and then Vietnam. I don't know why those two decades stand out to me but fuck it would've been a hell of a time to be alive

I've actually always wondered what it would have been like living in the 60/70 as well. Wouldnt necessarily WANT to live in those times, but think it would be cool to go "walk around" back then and see what it was like... or to have been able to part with my dad back in the mid 70's when he graduated.

Seriously, yes, but the drugs are only one teeny tiny little aspect of it all. I love military history as well(and Vietnam is one of the most fucked up conflicts we've ever been involved in) and I play guitar and no one can deny that the music back then was amazing, hell we still listen to it 30-40 years later. How much of today's music will still be listened to 40 years from now?

Goddammit I sound just like my parents

In the 70s... hmmm... I remember riding my big wheel... playing with my hot wheels... finding music, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc.

Do you remember what it was like hearing Sabbath or Zeppelin or Hendrix for the first time and did you have any clue we'd still be listening to those bands today?

Well you have to understand I was nine or ten then... it was just different... there was so much great music around that I never sat around thinking about if it would last. I just remember being amazed by all this endless great music I kept finding. Back then you would listen to entire albums, too... not just one or two or maybe three good songs from one album like is so often the case for a long while now.

I've always been more fascinated with the 40s-50s-60s, back when it was Ok to be a housewife/stay at home mom without having people say you are being suppressed by your husband and all that bullshit.

That's the thing, even if you were just 9 or 10 you still realize it was an amazing time and see, that's one reason I wish I got to experience that time period, just all the amazing music. In my opinion I don't believe there will ever be bands like Pink Floyd or Zeppelin or the Beatles or Jefferson Airplane or Hendrix again and in a way that makes me sad because sure, some of today's music may be remembered...but I'll never get to experience what it's like to be tripping at a Floyd show back in the 70's. The music from that period is great, sober or fucked up. The other thing about the 70's I would've loved along with the music is obviously the drugs. I'm not starting a debate about drugs because in my opinion there's a time and place for everything and if I want to smoke or trip while I'm seeing my favorite band perform my favorite songs with my best friends, it just makes the experience that much more memorable. Fucking shit I hope I'm not coming across in a retarded way and that some of this actually makes sense.

The 30s-40s fascinate me because of the Depression and WWII. My granddad served in the Phillipines from 42 til the end of the war in 45. It absolutely blows my mind that here I am, 21 years old and sitting on a computer in my comfortable home on my Friday off talking to my mm friends. What was my granddad doing when he was 21? He had been shipped halfway across the fucking world and was on a mortar crew in the middle of the goddamn jungle defending the rest of us while there were plenty of people trying to kill him and the rest of his platoon....I wish I could do something like that with my life, but when the military won't take you....well, the only other option I could think of is a contractor but tbh I haven't really looked into that. Hell, he even got to serve under MacArthur twice, I think that's cool as hell. When he was still alive he said the most beautiful sound in the world was the roar of the p-51's rolls royce merlin when they were flying over the airfield

What is it you prefer about the stay at home mom and housewife? Just the way you were raised or that's just the way you'd prefer it to be?

I think a big thing about the '60s and '70s was that was a transitional time for popular culture in this country. It shifted from being almost exlcusively driven by white males to being driven by blacks, hispanics, and women.

Ya know...I never looked at it that way before but you're right. Everything before then was mainly controlled by white males. That's a really good point, I'm glad you mentioned it
