i totally understand where you're coming from, though. if it works, there should be proof. but what about other things out there that don't have any proof? take marijuana for example. there are no proven long term health risks or benefits, and people have also been using it for thousands of years. just because no long term risks have been observed, doesn't mean they don't exist. this kinda goes into the whole religion debate. you know, "if god exists, prove it!" lol
and i'm also very aware of the placebo effect. i have learned that when trying new things like this, you'll get more accurate results if you're skeptical, and i'm always skeptical about things i've never tried.
i'll be honest with you man, looking at my mouth up close in the mirror after a few days of oil pulling, it's one of those "without a doubt" things. i would really like to see you try it, atleast for as long as i have so far, to see if you notice any changes, because you seem pretty skeptical lol. if you do give a try, whether it works for you or not, i'd love to hear about it.
acupuncture isn't new age medicine lol
it's also been around in china since like.. the dinosaurs and stuff
but to be honest, i think acupuncture is more of a placebo than anything else i've tried. when i had cancer, i was in pretty bad shape. the doctors were kind of grasping at straws to keep me around, so as a last resort, one of them ordered me to have acupuncture. for a week straight, every day i would go to this clinic and they'd stick needles in my face. the goal was to help ease my pain, help me rest better, and to help my mouth and eyes produce more water. that ended up being a complete waste of time lol

Placebo or not, it helped. Definitely didn't "cure" anything, though adding it to all the physical therapy and chiropractic care and narcotic cocktails I was on can't have hurt.
Doing some reading I found this...
For acute low back pain, there is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against either acupuncture or dry needling, though for chronic low back pain, acupuncture is more effective than other CAM treatments, but no more effective than conventional and alternative treatments for short-term pain relief and improving function. However, when combined with other conventional therapies, the combination is slightly better than conventional therapy alone.[18][98] A review for the American Pain Society/American College of Physicians found fair evidence that acupuncture is effective for chronic low back pain.[99] Conducting research on low back pain is unusually problematic since most patients have experienced "conventional care" – which is itself relatively ineffective[citation needed] – and have low expectations for it. As such, conventional care groups may not be an adequate scientific control and may even lead to nocebo effects that can further inflate of the apparent effectiveness of acupuncture.[100]
There is moderate evidence that for neck pain, acupuncture is more likely to be effective than other CAM treatments and offers short-term improvement compared to those on a waiting list.[101] This is tentatively supported by a recent review.[15]
