If I was 17 again, I would focus on school most importantly, then work and with that money I would save as much as humanly possible. Trust me, it will make life much easier down the road. If you car is reliable and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to fix it every month I would keep it through out school. Trust me, you are not going to want to live with your dad all your life, and you will be looking to move out a lot sooner than you think. It's just a matter of time. If you get the car you are looking at easily paying for it for 5 to 6 years. That may seem cool for you now, but A LOT can happen in that time. Hell, just finishing school is going to be a challenge. What are you majoring in? Will this major help you secure a better paying job easily? Does that job market have a lot of turn around?

Not being a dick at all, but it is some questions you need to look at before you start an easy 600 a month on a new car.

How much do you guys think i could sell my car for to put a little down payment on a new 5.0?
My dad told me to wait and get one until i turn 18 in september so i can put the car in my own name..should i wait? lol i really loved driving that 2012, so badass
If you can financially swing it, it would be awesome, but you should probably just stick with what you've got for now and save, rather than take out a 30kish loan on a brand new car...debt = bad

and P.S. you stole my avatar!!!

good advice everyone, thank you..im still not sure yet on what im going to do. 9 months is a lot of time to change my mind and to also get more money..idk what the price of a 2011 gt is going to be in september, im hoping its around $17k or $18k, but if they are still in the 20s i may consider buying an 03-04 cobra..any suggestions on that?

Tell you what. Call the dave ramsey radio show and ask him what he thinks about the plan. If he gives you the go ahead then by all means have fun.

Not likely. They'll still be in the mid to low $20k range. It's the newest model with the same Coyote motor as the rest of the Second Gen S197.

An S197 GT is probably very realistic. The Shelby GT's continue to hold their value because they're more real of Shelby's than the Shelby GT500, as they actually spent time under his supervision at the Las Vegas Plant. A GT/CS might be tough to find in that range, but could be possible. But an S197 GT is VERY realistic. You can find an S197 GT with 40-70k on them right now for around the $14k-$17k range. Gorgeous freaking car, a nice pick up in power from what you have, and a great platform to continue to build and mod.

ive grown to like the s197 gt's..never used to like the 3v thing but now that i listen to them more, i love the sound they make, and yes alot more power than what i have right now..i do like the california specials but if i dont get one i dont care really lol. I dont want anything more than about 30-35k miles. Want to buy the car, and keep it for a long time. And you are right, they are alot more affordable

You're driving the ultimate driving machine right now.

You don't pay for it, and no one can take it away from you.

Do you know why our country is in such a crap hole with its economy? Because too many people at every echelon of income and status decided to buy things they would have rather paid into monthly instead of saving for and buying with cash. They used credit they didn't have and got approved for loans they couldn't afford.

Not saying you'll do the same- I'm not fully aware of your situation. However, from my understanding and best judgment, I'd follow GLRK's idea and focus instead on school, job, and see how you can fare as-is.

Drive your car until it's too expensive to maintain, or get a beater, save the gas, and with the money saved, put it into an account labeled "5.0"

You want to finance investments and buy everything else cash. This way, your money works for you instead of the other way around. I've yet to see a post-1973 Mustang that costs more than what it was bought for brand new or even close. Cars are necessary, yes, but a $25k pony car? Impractical in the big picture. Your means of transportation is not an investment.
