Finding first job...
So perhaps times have changed, My parents have hounded me about getting a job. That was when I had just turned 16.
Here I am 17, applying EVERYWHERE wanting a job! Ive applied at every restruant and store in fayetteville/hope mills(thats the area I live in, in NC) How easy was it for everyone to get there first job here? What was the place? Howd you manage getting it? any tips? and can any1 hook me up or tell ways 2 make some money=P I have no past work history, but Ive done loads of volunteering at shelters/school functions, have good grades, and only thing thats killing me at this moment is no gas money/money to get my license. |

Find a place you would really like to work at, go in dressed for an interview to get an application, ask to speak with the manager. Then introduce yourself and ask if they are hiring. If they are put in an application and tell them you'll be checking back with them. And then do so.
A good way to save money would be to find cheap transportation to and from work. Bus, walk, bike, or even a motorcycle if you have access to one. |

Make fliers and offer to shovel people's driveways or watch their house/pets when they go away. Lots of money in that business. Also, have you tried fast food places? Around here, they are always hiring.

try UPS. i've always heard that they're a great company to work for. they even offer benefits for part time workers, and when it comes to advancement, the sky is the limit

How'd you dress? Hows your haircut? Do you care about working outside instead of inside?

I'm glad to say I've never had that problem. I work for my dad when I'm not in school full time doing HVAC controls. Last summer though I worked for a construction company that puts in levees and such. Sometimes gotta take the hard working, sweat your nuts off jobs.

With the economy the way it is you can expect that. Keep at it and the managers normally will recognize your persistence and give you an interview eventually. Don't just stick to once place though. Sometimes it just won't happen. I've been trying to get on with this gun store here in alabama but since the owner is an retired cop he usually hires his old cop buddies

I got my first job last January, they put out a memo through my school, so I jumped on that and got the job. Been working there a year, but I want to upgrade my 95 to an 08 GT, so I'm applying somewhere else that pays more. Hopefully I will get that job.
Try Best Buy or Target

I tried there when I was 16 and they told me I had to be 18 to be part time. Not sure how it is in NC though, doesn't hurt to try

There isn't much for you in Hope Mills. There should be lots of part time work in Fayettville though. God, as many restuarants as they have it shouldn't be that hard. Just make it a point to point out that you have worked before but it was as a volunteer. Remember to smile big and be friendly. Showing a friendly outgoing personality goes along way.
My 17 year old daughter just started her first job with Sheetz in November. when she went on her interview I told her to smile big and give a firm handshake and be as friendly as possible without seeming disingenuine. She came out with the job.

there are more options than fast food resturants you know that right?
i work in the shop at a ford dealership, not great pay but enough until im done with school. try some repair shops or construction, i have a buddy in highschool who makes $14 an hour working part time at a salvage yard

Make a really nice resume and include that when you turn in your application. That will automatically put you at the top of the list. Something I've been doing lately is buying stuff at goodwill and putting it on ebay.
