Any photographers here?

i got a new camera (actually about a month ago) its a 60d with the 18-135 kit lens, i bought a lens hood for the kit lens, a zekoz battery pack and my girlfriend got me a 50mm 1.8 for it for christmas (i got uv filters for both the lens)

im thinking about buying a 70-200mm 2.8L lens, anyone have one of these? and anyone know of some good lens to buy too?

any L series glass is going to be a good buy. were you gonna pick it up new or used? i have a 70-300 usm lens that is very nice, great quality shots. at a fraction of the price of L series

70-200L is a great lens. The 70-300mm is also very good. Some other good lenses: 60mm 2.8 macro, 10-22mm fisheye, and..

Yes, I have a 70-200mm f/2.8L glass. Love it to death.

Any L glass is nice, but be prepared to drop a few shiney pennies on them. (By few, I mean a shit load).

Any L Series lens is pretty much awesome. I have the 70-200MM f/4L and love it! I've been pining for the 24-70mm f/2.8L for a while now.

as in if you were really gonna pay for it with pennies you would have to bring a dump truck full of them , and I am sure the seller would be fairly displeased with this.

lol

I would recommend holding off on buying glass until you know what kind of shots you like to take. If you find yourself doing a lot of closer shots, a 70-200 is just going to sit in your camera bag and collect dust. If you're doing wildlife photography, 200 is going to really be too short.

You probably will want a longer lens though, as right now your longest focal distance is a 135. For having a set of lenses that covers everything you might want to do, I'd recommend getting something that will at least go out to 250mm, if not 300.

Cheapest way to figure it all out will most likely be to get friendly with Borrowlenses and test out the lenses you think you want.

and as the Reverend said you need to decide what your going to shoot more of. since i got the 17-40 my 70-300 has just sat in the bag

I was thinking about the 20-70 f2.8L IS (mark 1)
just because i have a 18-135 for some wide angles (the kit lens is pretty good for this stuff) then the 50mm 1.8 for anything like portraits and stuff.
but i heard the 70-200 is one of the best selling lens because it can be used for so much,

im taking a photojournalism class next semester and i think this lens will help out a lot,
(then my next lens will be for wide angles like a 20-70 or something)

i dont know if i need the IS or not though, If i do get the IS im going to buy a used Mark 1

In my opinion, IS is like ABS. Some purists hate it, but for the large majority it's a better way to go. For the pictures I take it certainly makes my life significantly easier.

Just remember to turn it off if you're using a tri-/monopod.

I personally believe that my non IS 70-200 is sharper than an IS version.
