Did it say it was an auto? I'm just wondering because it is very possible it could have been manual. Seems more likely since he could have backed into the spot and left it in reverse. Came out to his car later started it and forgot to go back into first and just being dumb floored it for fun to find out it was still in reverse. Seems much more likely to me because if it was an auto he would have had to had the car in park to start it and then would realise he definitely didn't need reverse. just my .02 cents

but he pulled in straight. hence why the car fell out nose first. I just dont see how some one could forget to shift into reverse in a manual.

Oh my bad , I didn't reread it or anything but the first time I read it I thought the car came out of the building backwards. Nevermind, still possible in a manual. One of my friends always parks his in neutral even though I told him he shouldnt but he took it to a shop one day and when he went to pick it up they left it parking in 1st pulled in forward. He gets in thinking its in neutral like he always does starts it and imediately lets off the clutch and the car hops forward onto the curb. I still give him hell for it since he hasn't learned and still parks it in neutral everytime.

And now that I think about it I bet it was a manual and he didn't know how to engage reverse. In the new mustangs reverse and first are in the same position but you have to push the shifter down first to go into reverse. I bet he thought he got it into reverse and still wound up in first gear. I can in a way see how he got it confused but still not as much how he still managed to get all the way out of the parking garage.
