Carroll Shelby's real Cobra sold for $5 Million at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction.
A replica is not quite the same. I watch a lot of auction shows and $37,000 maybe too much to spend on a car that will remain in the garage and never be driven. That and it won't increase in value like you'd think...again, it's a replica of a replica. Probably not able to get as much as he thought-- hence the fire sale. These car kits cost about $25,000 and there are so many people with it (or at least that can have it) it prevents it from being as rare or as special as it could/should be. Not that I don't love them, not that they aren't bat-shit fast....but anytime everyone can have something the value tends to decline.

Here's something I got off the internet after reading his replica was indeed a "factory five version":
The replica AC Cobra is one of the most common kit cars produced all over the world. And by looking at the Factory Five version, you can see why. It really is one of the most beautiful cars of all time! But why go for the Factory Five kit over another company? Well, how about over 10 years of building and developing the car? Or the fact it has it's own race series? I think the fact they have over 6000 happy customers should clinched it for you, but if not, how about the $20,000 kit price? It's the same story with the '33 Hot rod, all you need is an engine (Ford 289/302, 351, or 4.6l 4V V8), transmission, rear end, paint, wheels, tyres, batter and fuel pump. All in all, this is a great little bit of kit for the money and is backed up by professional service, outstanding quality and a great price! As with the '33 Hot Rod, expect to pay upwards of $25,000 for a completed car.

I just want it because its sexy and 37.5K doesnt seem too outrageous for a car that clean regardless of it being a kit or not, but I do know what you're saying. Obviously i'll never have 5 million to buy a real Shelby but above said car would do quite nicely lol. And yeah I have read and heard quite a bit on Factory Five I just wish i had the time and money to invest in my own kit...

A high school automotive class near me has started building these. They are on their 2nd one. Had the same color and a 302 out of a foxbody with a T5. They sold the last one for 26K. I saw it in person and it was super clean

They have my cowl hood actually, Getting painted for $200.00 which is great because all the priming and sanding its taking would have cost a fortune anywhere else I'll take a picture of the kit car next time I go check on my hood.

Well in that case maybe you will catch him driving it, the once or twice a month he actually drives it.

I would be more impressed if he had a older motor. I think the love of that car is the old school feel of it. The efi is a fail for me. I would love that car carbed...

$37.5 for an FFR is a joke. The kits that require a 5.0 donor car start at $13k, the everything-but-the-engine-and-tranny kits are still only $20k.
Here's a little FFR love:

Yeah you can find those for way cheaper than that. 1FF is putting together one with a GT500 drivetrain and I'm willing to bet he won't even be out more than 30k for it.
One day I WILL build one. Although I'm torn between a Cobra or a Type 65 Coupe. ![]()
