^True story.

I like to find good local brews myself. I am bored with all the name brand stuff. Also, if you like Crown Royal, you should try Crown and Apple Juice. A bartender friend of mine turned me on to it and I love it now! She is one of my good friends and I try something new every time I stop by. Don't be stingy on the Crown either. I mix it almost half and half, I think it is about perfect. Tastes awesome and it isn't all syrupy or gut busting like Coke is. So far Mott's and Simply are my favorite Juice brands to match with the Crown.

Heh, I think of it more as the Starbucks of beer. I don't even think it's honest dark brew... my understanding is that it's a medium or light beer that takes on a dark color due to one of the ingredients being excessively roasted.

My thoughts exactly. It is a thin, dark beer. I've stopped referring to beer as "dark" because color doesn't have too much to do with it. "heavy" is better word in my book. Semantics and marketing, yay.

AFAIK it's only in bottles; at least I haven't seen it on tap anywhere. But it's damn good. At the bar I drink Yuengling Black and Tan on draught or I get some Irish dry stout when I'm at the local bar that serves microbrews.

Well that's just retarded. You sound like a hipster/teen anarchist that doesn't like things just because they're "popular."

Budweiser is a nasty beer, Guinness is good.
Budweiser sells everywhere because they dominate the market and virtually control distribution, Guinness is everywhere because it's fucking good.

I seriously recommend everyone watch the documentary "Beer Wars." It's on Netflix so you can stream it. It will kind of open your eyes to the way the beer market works in America, and why it is so damn hard to find a good beer when all you see is Bud and Miller.

Anyone who thinks Guiness is good either went to Ireland or has never had anything but domestic macrobrews.

Guinness isn't that great. I've had it Ireland of all places and it's not any better there. Guinness is ireland's version of our major breweries, it's everywhere because they have a lot of money like Budweiser. Budweiser isn't great either but there are people that like it and drink it religiously just because it's American.

And though bud and miller do dominate the market, they're losing control of it slowly. Remember bud's lime beer or it's wheat beer? It was budweiser's response to the exploding micro brew market and it was a failed response at that. Micro brews aren't just the "hip" thing to drink anymore. Now they're the only thing to drink if you actually like beer. They used to be expensive because there wasn't much of a supply of microbreweries, but now microbreweries are in just about every major city.

Ah, I've heard from a few people that have traveled that it was better there than here, I don't have personal experience with it myself.

Yep, I figured "when in Rome" so I got myself a pint and was disappointed. It was actually my first time drinking Guinness and I expected a hearty roasty wheaty flavor but it was light, crispy and pretty flavorless. Total opposite of what I was expecting.

umm I've had guinness and I've had several stouts (before and after i tried guinness) so when i tasted guinness, i was deeply disappointed. with all the hype, i came to find out that it doesn't taste like any stout or even any slightly dark beer. I've actually thought it taste like bud light or something. it had no body or taste to it.

Exactly, I mean Guinness isn't a bad beer, it's just a bad stout. If you want a stout, you need to drink something else (like new highland oatmeal stout, I think that's what it's called).

Good point. I didn't think about it that way. No matter how you look at it, men think of their beers the same way they think of their women, their sports teams, and theirs cars: they like what they like, and damn everyone else if they like something different.
