Question about getting a job and them calling references

I'm trying to get a job with a company that installs emergency equipment on police cars and I just had my 2nd interview yesterday.

This afternoon 2 of the people I put down for references called me and said they had called them for a reference.

Is it a pretty sure thing they are going to make me an offer?

I think they're just calling to make sure you're reputable. They're probably interviewing multiple people for the position even at this stage, but if you made it through 2 interviews and they called references it's a good sign

I don't call references unless they person I'm interviewing is a real candidate. If they aren't, why waste my time? That's just me though.
