there is such a thing as too much fitness

got a couple friends my age who all of a sudden decided to start lifting. according to them its a good idea to lift on all 7 days of the week, sometimes even twice in one day. not to mention theyre dumping tons of $$$ into suppliments, which seems like a waste to me as well. not saying suppliments are a waste, but taking 4 different ones everytime you work out is a bit excessive...

Working out everyday is not bad, unless they're doing the same muscle groups day in and out. Supplements are helpful, but they do not replace good diet and exercise habits.

Chuck Norris lifts 12 times a day 7 days a week 365 days a year

Sorry I had to.

I agree I wouldn't work out more than 5 days a week and once a day while taking adequate breaks throughout the workout so I don't over excert myself

Working out that much isn't going to get them bigger.

When you lift you are legit tearing muscles.. You need a day or two off to let you muscle repair itself and grow back bigger.

You are all right and wrong. Depends on how they are lifting and WHAT they are taking. The body(muscle) need approx 48hours to recover. As long as they have good rest, take the RIGHT supplements...legal or not, and do the lifting correctly...7 days a week isn't bad or good...but it is good and bad...factors matter.

Your muscles grow outside the gym not in it.
I lift 5 days a week with a body part a day healthy diet some supplements and do cardio on Saturday with no lifting and i take Sunday off to relax and eat
My buddy does twice a day 6 days a week but he is also juiced to the tits with roids which allows him quicker recovery so he can push it to the limit.

I say a good 5 day schedule workout routine and a healthy diet will get you where you want in time.

Personally, I lift 5-6 times a week, max.
2 body parts a day (chest/triceps, back/biceps, legs shoulders)
3 days in a row, rest 1. (possible to lift 6 days a week, tops)

Works for me. You gotta work right, you can bust your ass and do things wrong and not get any results.
Eat well, lots of protein and calories will help to put on muscle mass.

One more bit of advice, if you are skinny, you can't go straight to "ripped". The only way to get "ripped", as in large, shredded, striated muscles, you have to put on a decent amount of mass. Some people will naturally look "ripped" at that point, some will have to "cut" with different exercises, reps, and cardio.
(I'm 5'10" 159lbs: Bench 250 and Squat 330, 17 years old)

If I'm still really sore and tight when it's time to do a body part again, I'll rest that day, do it the next. Muscles need to repair, grow back bigger and stronger. Don't tear them before they're healed. I only bench 2x a week, same for squat, and that's pushing it, my workouts are intense. Gotta bust your ass on a daily basis to get the results you want.

I have this quote posted up in my home office:

Overtraining was something made up by fools who didn’t want to work hard.

I've found that my greatest gains were made when I did work out 7 days a week. Only supplements I take are multivitamin, protein, and fish oil.

Good quote, but completely wrong.

I can say to you that you will not gain any more from benching every day than you will from 2 times a week.

Just bust your ass the 2 times you do that body part, and you'll be fine, more than fine actually.

Go try to do legs every day, I dare you. Go squat, several sets, till failure, then leg press, lunges, leg extensions and curls. Let's see you try to do that every day...

This was almost 3 years ago, but I made this change to my body in 3 and half weeks by eating right and working out every day

I think everyone is different, somehow my genetics allow me to work out every day even through DOMS. As long as I switch up my split and sets, I can keep pushing my max on the 3 biggies: bench, squat, deadlift.

What were you eating?

On days that I work out I drink pure almond milk (more calcium an vitamins )
Eat more meat and drink alot of water as well bananas and a few protein bars

Oat meal and fruit for breakfast, apple and peanut butter for mid-morning snack 2x a week, salmon or shrimp for lunch along with rice and vegetables, yogurt and protein shake for afternoon snack, a can of tuna with flax seed oil for dinner, and another protein shake before bed.

I personally believe there is such thing as over training. I only work out 5 days a week, but in those 5 days I focus on one muscle group (except Friday, which is Bi's and Tri's). I believe that you need to give the muscle adequate time to recover. I saw my best gains by going this route.

But in all honesty, it really depends on the person doing the workout. Some things work better for different people. There is not on set formula of how to do things.

Ya to much and you will end up just completely burning yourself out. I was running 5 days a week and after 4 months I was done.
