What Do You Guys Think

okay, i am looking at buying a new truck within this month. i have to have 4x4 and need a 3/4 ton. i have been looking at f-250 and the Chevy 2500hd. i don't want to deal with dodge at all. i will be buying a diesel as i will be traveling all over the country. i was wondering what your thoughts on each of these 2 trucks are. i will be going with a 4 door and short bed and leather interior. and am looking to spend between $32,000-$40,000. let me hear from some of the people who have actually had experiences with these 2 trucks and not just who you like. thanx

I've been driving Ford diesels for the past 3 years (was a flatbed and pickup truck driver up until last month) so I have some experience ... all of which lasted through 250K on the odometer and nothing ever went wrong with them, ever. Far as I know they would have lasted a lifetime. Best friend of mine just picked up an 02 or 03 F250 TurboDiesel extended cab with 25,000 miles for just under $30, so they aren't too terribly bad a deal. I'd love to get my hands on the new Ford twin-turbod F350-550, those things are badass imo. But pricey. Back on track... I dunno I like Chevy trucks just as much as Fords but I've heard bad things about Chevy's engines and ditto for Ford's trannys.

Had an 03 Chevy 2500 (not a diesel but using this as a point of reputable reference here.. bare with me) at work as well and I have to say, interior paled to compare to that of the Fords, again, imo. And it's all a matter of preference as far as appearance goes, but if you're looking for a shortbed, I prefer Ford's shortbed body style over that of Chevrolet's.

Never did much work other than routine maintanence so can't help ya out much in that aspect, sorry buddy. But as far as driver comfort, drivability, appearance and general appeasement of the two vehicles I very much prefered the Ford F250TD over the Chevy 2500HD in my 3 years of driving both, a few hundred miles a day. I would have happily taken our Ford truck as my daily driver, it just accelerated so effortlessly for a big truck. It was awesome.

Good luck man. I love car shopping. Good going eliminating the Dodge 2500. Traveling all over the country? For work? Don't mind me I'm just a curious sob

yeah my uncle is starting up a business doing the same thing i do from the ground up and instead of him buying all of the company trucks hes just going to give us an allowance and pay us mileage. so im going to get a nice truck but i need something very reliable, and get good gas mileage. looks like im gonna be down in mexico a bunch too. which i kind of think is gonna be fun. im gonna need a lotta condoms lol

I agree with Snaker. All the over the road engineers & techs at our place use the Ford, and their new big turbo diesel is not only powerful, it's frighteningly quiet for a diesel. I like the Ford.

I have experience with both diesels. I have a 97 f350 crew cab with the 7.3 in it with a lil over 300,000 miles. That thing still starts every time, the first time. Not once had a problem with it. although i did put a tranny cooler on it cuz ford said that the transmission was a piece of shit or something. But, i hauled a 13,000 pound trailer down to key west (from baltimore), to memphis from keywest, from memphis to dallas, and from dallas to baltimore about 7 times and never once had a problem. I wouldnt trust the chevy to take me around the corner to Giant.

Now, I also have a 02 chevy 2500 with the duramax. That thing is a piece of shit. its in the shop more times than it runs. just, stay away from it. it only has like 55,000 miles on it, but it is a true piece of shit.

Now, Ford brought out the 6.4 diesel this year which i think is going to have a lot of problems. Im not going to get into it, but if you want a great truck, get a ford with the 7.3. I believe they made them up until 02. That truck will treat you wonderful

i dont hav any experience with fords, but i kno a lil something about chevys

ive seen the 4-door chevys and the dump truck chevys

ive never actually seen them break down, but in a 2 week period i heard more horror stories than a WWII veteran cud tell in a month

i dont kno if ford is any better.. but ive seen chevy dump trucks going 30mph up the highway for no reason, the thing jus wudnt go above 30 lol

its only 2 years old, so yea..

I just traded my Chevy 2500 crew cab. I wanted a diesel 3/4 ton with leather and I started out looking at Chevies, Fords, and Dodge trucks. This is pure opinion, so take it for what it is. There's nothing like the Ford Super Duty. I traded the Chevy for an F250 Super Duty 4x4 and I'm lovin the truck - it's badass. It came with 33" BFG Mud Terrain TA's - they are noisy but otherwise BA. The truck is a Lariat, so it is leather and loaded. Plus it's an 02 - I've got a 7.3 truck.

Anyway, I looked at all of them. The Super Duty is the shit. The interior on the Chevy and Dodge just don't compare. I won't get into the diesel engine part, people are funny there. Happy hunting!

i have experience in both mind you its a little different but yea

on the fire department we have a f550 super duty diesel we use as a brush fire truck its spent its whole life hauling 500 galloons of water around not to mention various other gear so basically hauling heavy load 24/7 at very extreme driving conditions obviously that damn thing never has had a bit of trouble only routine maintinence good fuel economy considering its use

i worked on a construction crew and rode to work with the forman who had a 06 chevy hd diesel had about 25-30k on it i belive and in the 3 months i rode with him it was in the shop at my best memory at least 7 times for various mechanical issues he traded it off right after i quit for a ford f350 super duty and its never seen the shop

my experience take it for what you will

ok theres a reason that doidge trucks are cheaper, and depreciate quicker. they have greta motors, but the rest of it is seriously lacking. from what i read. the best one on the market is the chevy but thye are a little more pricey than the ford. they are all good trucks, but its between the ford and the chevy with me. the 6.0 diesel in the ford has had a lot of tsbs out for them. and the chevy, not so much.

I fully disagree, I think the 6.4 will be a solid motor.

After ford tried the 6.0 and had a miserable release, injectors siezing up, turbos getting destroyed and so on and so on, I think ford did/has done their homework on releasing a new diesel into its heavy duty trucks, and wont/cant repeat the failure the 6.0 was.

haha recalls aside, chevy breaks faster

take it from me, the place i worked at was all chevy trucks.. 4 dump trucks.. i think maybe 6 or 7 4-door pickups.. at least one was being repaird constantly..

mostly small stuff tho.. door wont open from the outside.. seat-belt light and warning wont shut the fuck up even when ur seat belt is on.. 1 truck refused to go above 30mph for some reason.. the beds in the dumpers broke.. the doors for the dumpers broke.. i never seen it, but i heard 1 of the pickups broke down the same month they bought it, right in the middle of new jersey (we live in PA soooo thast bad)..

the pickups do acclerate pretty good tho, it surprised me when the gas pedal was really pushed, even hauling a trailer full of equipment it still got to 60 faster than mys tang does lol

I think you'll be ok on the 6.0 as long as it's in a newer truck. The early 6.0 trucks had teething problems. So did the early DMax trucks. They solved it, both sides, so pick the interior you like.

2008 ford F350 6.4 King Ranch

I have a brand new 6.4 liter King Ranch F 350. Nice truck inside! Under the hood is a total nightmare. I have 6,000 miles on it had the first oil change at 5,000 miles. The turbo is making one hell of a noise on shut down and the mileage has gone down hill. I am thinking about getting rid of it!!!!
