Debates like this never really have a clear cut answer. It's just things that make me think. I had a who week discussion w/ some coworkers a few months about about the difference between a bag vs sack vs net. It's amazing what you come up w/ when you're bored.

It's a matter of perspective. Some people, myself included, think about days in terms of weeks as a way to make sense of them on a timeline, others, like apparently Sonic, think of them as individual units. If you think of a 7 day block as a unit, then the 11th is "next" and if you think of days alone as units then the 4th is "next" since it's technically the next one to occur.
See post 59, I said that's the only good reason I've heard from anyone. Until you said anything, only one person at work (of all the people I've asked) stated that.

Give me credit, I pointed that out in post 59.

OK, sorry, I went back and saw that now. I must have glazed over it, but I did rep you for it.

Instead of the bag vs net thing, next time try getting people to define the word "game" and watch people go nuts.

I gave up attempting to make sense of any of this stuff.

Everybody who said "next Saturday" and means the one after the coming Saturday... is CORRECT, so my position is now reversed

I was 100% wrong on this and proved it to myself just this very moment.. I was responding to a post asking when my motor would be done. I began writing this EXACT sentence and stopped....

"I suspect to get a call next week with an update of the progress..." IMMEDIATELY... I had realized, I was referring to not this UPCOMING week, beginning in 3 days, but rather the one AFTER that!

This is conclusive proof to me, that although the actual definition of "next" is incorrectly used in the context of this threads original intent, it is indeed CORRECT to describe "next Saturday" as the one FOLLOWING the upcoming Saturday.

Jazzer stands corrected

I agree with 1FF, Zipp, Nip, corrected-Jazzer, and whoever else voted the 11th.

Here in New York, as well as New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, we use this method. It's the proper way.
