Someone educate me on Valentine radar w/remote display

Alright I have a couple winter projects going on with the bike and one of them is to put a radar detector on it. I know they arent flawless ways to keep from getting pulled over but I figured it would be a good safety net ( so there is no need to get into that discussion ).

So does anyone have one of the V1s with the mobile display? My question is with the mobile display so I still need to keep the V1 somewhere visible to detect radar? I was thinking about putting the head unit under my seat and put the mobile display under my guages. Bad idea? Suggestions? Input?

I would rather not spend the $800 on the setup if its not going to work considering I already have a radar detector in my explorer that never leaves the glove compartment.

Not positive, but I believe the headunit requires line of sight. Unless the Mobile display has the sensors on it too.
