I cannot talk for the Dre earbuds, but I can say that the headphones are WAY bass heavy, not good in the mids, and terrible highs. If you like super heavy bass and not much highs, then they would be perfect. For audio, perfect is different for each person. I don't like super bass heavy. I like flat from 20k Hz to about 350 Hz. Then a 4-5 dB rise from 350 Hz to ~200 Hz and flat out to the bottom. The bass in the Dre over ear headphones is a good 7-9 dB higher than the mids. You can get some decent bass (nothing outrageous) from good earbuds because they will form a tight seal in the ear canal. A tight seal allows to "pressurize" the canal and provides a boost in low end response. That's why it's important to have a good fit. The same principal applies to car audio and they receive a ~12dB/oct boost below ~250 Hz.
