Lol thanks! I'm pretty stoked, I'm starting at 30k and they're buying all my tools as well as paying for me to get all the certifications after I get trained on everything.

Heck ya man, I've been installing for years on the side. I've helped do audio in a truck built for kicker audio for one of their big shows. It can get frusterating at times, but in the end its awesome. I dont know i could do it as a full time job, but as a side job i love it.

You should look int Installers Institute (i think that was the name of the place) down in florida, they have one hell of a set up. a couple of buddies were talking about going down there with me and taking a course, but we decided not to.

Thats who the shop is going through to get me the certs.

I already have homework to do, lol, I gotta read up on dual vs. single coil subs and practice my soldering skills.

My interview was awesome, consisted of going step by step how to install a head unit in the owners truck, I was the only one of the guys that got interviewed that caught the fact he had a Chevy and so needed the data link adapter so that the lights and OnStar would still work. Fuck yeah bonus points.

Hell yea man, should be pretty easy to catch onto the SVC vs DVC, and wiring down to one ohm stable (if the amp is capable). Im sure you know all about RMS vs peak wattage. And the differences in gauges needed for certain wattage amps.

Good luck buddy!

Congrats. Once you learn a little bit, i may have to pick your brain a little. My brothers friend is restoring a 78 F-150 Ranger and is wanting me to wire up a system for him. I know some of the basics, and i'm good at running/soldering wires. Just not good with components.

Reading the few posts on here.... I didn't know there was that much to know about audio. Thought just needed to know what goes where. Blew my mind. Ha

Oh man no, theres a ton that goes into it, sure Johnny Ricer may have been able to throw some walmart subs in his Civic and get some beats going...

But for accurate and precise sound reproduction, there's a lot that goes into it. You have the technical side, which determines where to put what kind of speakers, how much power to throw at them, how to wire them up, how to choose between two 10" subs or one 12" sub, how to build a good subwoofer enclosure, etc.

Then you have the acoustic side which determines how it actually sounds...the reality is cars are TERRIBLE sound stages between the stock speaker locations, road noise, and the general shape of a vehicle cabin. Knowing how to work with the physical space and the electronics to make them sound good however is what makes a good installer.

It's a whole hell of a lot more than just splicing wires.

Are you going to get into building the enclosures as well? Thats always been my fav part of in stalling. I got friends that would just screw plywood together and put speakers in it.

Then here i would take 2-3 days working on my box and they always wondered why. Then when they saw the final product they realized... Gluing every joint, caulking around the inside, sanding all the edges smooth, stretching the vinyl/carpet around the box. It really is an art.
