Car Salesmen...Get In Here Meow!

Okay, so this saturday im hopefully (if everything check's out with the car) going to go pick up my new ride.

Now, i have a few question's...

It's about 45 minute's to an hour away. I have to drive the car home. Here's my dilema. Can i drive the car home without a plate? Like...say I get pulled over. Can i say i just bought the car, here's the title...blah blah blah, and be on my merry way?

It's from a member on s2ki, so not a dealer or anything...Im just wondering how i should go about this.

Just show the title and proof of insurance. You usually have 14 days to register the car.

I drove over. 2 hours to get my gt. it wasn't inspected or registered it like. 2 years. I drove it home,never got stopped. When I got home I didn't drive it until I tagged and inspected it that following Monday.

Take the plate off your mustang and put it on the S2K and hope you don't get stopped or the plate run

I was actually thinking about that 67...but i decided not too. lol
If i just transfer the plate over the the new car, would it be cheaper when it come's to registering it?

And jumper, i wont get in trouble or anything? I have a feeling im going to get pulled over multiple times...-_____- the cop's in the area's i drive through on the way up and back are complete dicks. (and i usually never say that, i actually like LEO's)

You'll be fine as long as you register the car under your insurance, and get title in hand.

If you get stopped and it's not reg. show them proof of ins and title. 9/10 the cop will see you just bought it and let you off. If not, they'll write you a ticket for reg. which is a 10.00 fine and cost of reg. I forgot to send reg papers on my wrx and got pulled over. That's what they did to me. 10.00 and the 54.00 reg fee.

So if i pick it up and buy it the same day...how can i show proof of insurance. can i use the card from my mustang? lol i mean, i have insurance on the gt, but how would i switch it over that fast.

im a noob at all this.

You can get insurance on a vehicle before you purchase. Call your ins. company and tell them the VIN and that you're purchasing it.

Call them up add the car and get libality. Dive to the office and they'll print you proof of ins.

Get yourself insurance on the vehicle and keep your signed copy of the bill of sale. You may not have the title in possession due to the fact that the seller could still owe a balance thus rendering the vehicle still in the ownership of the creditor until the sale is complete. However, if you have insurance, and a bill of sale you should be okay. Contact your local DMV to check individual state laws though.

that would be easy if i had a regular insurance company. But i have NJM. (new jersey manufacturers) and i believe their hq is in north jersey... -_____-

so i just tell them the vin, i plan on purchasing the vehicle, and then i now have coverage on the vehicle?
even if i dont have a card, they can still see that the car has coverage in my name..yes?

im probably just over-thinking it all...but i want to be sure, and ready!

Yep. Most clients I sold vehicles to had insurance on their new cars before they drove them off the lot. While we would prep finance paperwork, they would call and get the vehicle insured in under 40 minutes over the phone. It's really simple.

In Texas. Bill of sale is not a legal doc.

But, your over thinking it. Get ins on the car. Even if you don't have a paper proof.

If you get pulled over. Tell them here's title,bill of sale, and say you just got ins today and don't have an updated ins card. He may give you a ticket and all you have to do is show up on court date and by then you'll have updated card. Show it and dropped. Doneski.

If financing a car, you have to have ins before you drive it off the lot.

S2K's are too tiny IMO. I'm not tall by any means. 5'7ish and I say in one and felt like a large dog inside a car crate. I had to get out ASAP. Sells men kept trying to talk me into buying it.

You are supposed to put your old plate on the car. With that, and a bill of sale, you have a certain amount of time to have it correctly registered.
