You can always come back to a mustang when you are set on good financial ground. Get your priorities right and get yourself through school first. The toys you want will come later on.
they get good MPGs if you dont get a 3.0 or 4.0, i only get 13 highway in my ranger but I'm running 31s or 32s depending on which wheels I have on at the time and the M/T tires don't help either

My 04 (Newer Body Style) F150 get's about an average of 15mpg with 50/50 driving. Cruising at 70mph it will creep up to 18mpg, at 60mph it will sit around 20mpg. This is with 285/65-18 sized tires and 3.55 gears. I had a 99 Ranger 4x4 with the 3.0 and it got almost identical mileage as my F150 does and no where near the power! If you are over 6' tall, the Ranger is also gonna start felling cramped also.
