So I then ask why on earth do so many people come here and assume we will go out of our way to teach our society how to cope with having to work with foreign languages? I think it's great that every kid in Europe is required to take English courses, (or german/french/spanish if their country speaks english already, obviously) but I don't think we should have to do that here. Maybe it's about friggin time for our country to claim "english" as our national language. We came close earlier this year but for some dumbass reason nobody thought it was a good idea. I love that idea personally. Alright glad to get that off my chest and thanks for readin fellas (and occasional lady).

sidenote: I went into Walmart the other day for some cheap shit and swung by the cd section to find over half of their cd collection was hispanic music cds, or spanish music, w/e. yeah i was a little confused. k now i'm done.
u see this is true, but if u went to china, the signs are in mandarin AND in english. wanna go to japan now? same thing. japanese AND english. how bout europe? german and english. french and english. spanish and english. but there is NO way in HELLLLLLLLLLLL we are gonna put spanish signs up in america.. FUCK THAaaaAaAaAAaaT

let me stop you right there.

you forgot to mention that those signs are posted in tourist cities.

that is ANY country.

we do it too.
look at socal. you will see signs in spanish and english
look at northern Ny you will see them in french and english.

Uh no they're not for only tourists. They're for English speaking citizens and English speaking people who live there.

I don't know about any of you fucks, but I enjoyed spanish in High School. If I had the time I'd go back and learn it all over again.

If the world thought like you guys then there would be no translators and we'd all be living in ignorance with the inability to talk to any other country that doesn't think English is the best language ever.

English sucks, it's one of the dumbest and hardest languages to learn.

+1!
you guys need to do your research before you make statements like that...im talking about the statements like.."why cant they leanr enlgish"..or"if you come to this country you should leanr english"..okay if some of you would of stayed in school long enough maybe you would of heard that the english language is the second hardest language to learn in the world!! also me knowing both english and spanish will get me alot further in life that just being stuck to one..so think about that..whether its spanish, sign language or russian..knowing more than one language will make yourself more marketable in the workplace

that's not the point I am trying to make.

yes it is indeed nice to know more than one language and it does infact make you more marketable.

and yes the USA is a melting pot and YES spanish is the second most used language....

you should be taught both in school. I agree with that.
but you should also be able to speak english when you are in the USA.

how am I ignorant for getting pissed off at someone who can't answer a simple question like "which Isle is the milk in"
(i'm talking as if I am talking to an employee of a common supermarket.)
shit these aren't even the stock boys I am talking to... there are floor ppl!

if you want to work here and live here fine.
learn my language as well.

Dude... to rebutt your example... Milk is usually in the back of the store in the coolers... haha

I know several times I couldn't understand someone who barely spoke English myself, but to get pissed off at them without knowing the background on if they're in an ESL class or not is just ignorant.

I know where the milk is

come on now.... when the motherfucker has a walmart smock on... you know his ass works there

I understand the whole backround thing.
some one stated a few posts back that knowing more than one language will make yourself more marketable in the workplace.

IT WORKS BOTH WAYS!

But the point I'm trying to make here is this; How do you know he's NOT in an ESL class? Do you know he's illegal? Do you know anything about him before you judge the guy? Learning ANY new language from scratch takes time.

What would happen to you if you got transfered to, say, France in high school without having taken any French classes? Would you be a lowlife piece of shit just trying to work and get through your classes with a crash course of French?

You're hating and you don't know anything about this person in your hypothetical situation.

haha that's easy to do in school over being at work. How many Americans do you know that would be pissed if they asked someone a question and they had to take the time to look it up in a book in the middle of the aisle?

Face it, Americans are impatient, impractical jackasses to anyone who doesn't speak English... wait... scratch that second part... I mean to everyone.

It's hard to know how many illegals are in the US, but I know that Walmart is NOT going to hire them based on the fact that they won't have any paperwork or proof of identity in the first place.

As i posted in a thread i made a while back I can't stand people who come over to a english dominated country and want us to adhere to their wants.... They come over here into my neighborhood illegally and then get a job where they will need to know english and i ask them something and they look at me like im a fucking alien. I'm learning spanish slowly but surely, mainly cuss words and shit first. but i need to know it for my job since i do a/c work in new houses where its inevitable running into a spanish speaking person. I'm one of the few white people on these jobs. Do I want to learn spanish? hell no, I'm in america and we speak english why should i have to change my ways for someone who is over here illegally? How am i supposed to let the sheetrockers know not to cover up our shit without knowing spanish. maybe they should get there lazy fucking asses up and learn to speak english because i'll say it once again, we are in AMERICA, not fucking mexico. call me dumb, call me ignorant, call me whatever the fuck you want, but im just an American and damn proud of it!

I don't know of many illegals that are making us "adhere to their wants". Most of them keep a low profile to avoid deportation.

What about me? I'm American born, and I want Americans to stop being ignorant and just open their minds to learning a new language. Don't care what language, just learn something aside from English. Since you know English is NOT our official national language anyway.

This place was built on immigration and everyone being different. If you don't like the fucker who's mopping the floors because he sucks at English, don't ask him where the milk is.

Go get a job with the border patrol. Go get a job in the immigration service. Do something other than just sitting here bitching about it.

if by low profile you mean 30 mexicans standing on a corner looking for work... sure... ok

i have nothing against learning a 2nd language, im not gonna lie its neat i know some spanish and some german. we just shouldnt be FORCED to learn something because someone came over here illegally and they dont want to learn our language.

yes it was built on immigration... it was also built on slavery does that make it right? a large amount of criminals were sent over here to get them out of britain.... so we were also built by criminals? we were built on some things and now we are settled have our own government an "unofficial" national language....

i already have a career no need for a job.

im surprise you dont work for the border patrol..with your attitude i wouldn't be surprise if you actually go build the wall yourself...like i said before..your from texas..your going to come accross alot of mexicans their if your working in houses so maybe you should of thought about that before you picked that career and also think about the fact that there giving you business and can give it to someone else..they dont need to pick you for the job because im pretty sure there many that can do it so maybe think about the next time you go to a house and a hispanic opens the door

i'm the third party.

I could care less where you cam from.

I don't care what your first language is.

This has nothing to do with race for me so please don't put me in that catagory.

yes it's good to know a second language.

I just think that if you walk into a store where most of the population speaks English you should be able to or at least make an attempt to as well.

k here we go

ur both lazy, those that dont wanna learn it and those that point fingers at those that dont wanna learn it

pouting and whining because u gotta read and hear spanish isnt gonna make it go away.. if u knew spanish already, it wudnt bother u.. so if u wanna get over it.. accept it, ignore it, or learn it.. simple as that

Ok, who's forcing you to learn anything? By things being read over loudspeakers, or signs displaying spanish dialect is forcing something on you?

Do you feel that oppressed?
