Debate: What came first?

I brought this up at work yesterday and we had a 4 hour conversation over what came first, the Chicken or the egg....

I want to see what you guys think

something did, if the chicken was first and the egg was first, somthing had to make that chicken but then again something layed that egg

I'd have to say the chicken, probably mutated / evolved from some other bird (or maybe imbred)... then of course laid more chickens.

My take on it is that the chicken came first...

Some say that the chicken had to come from an egg. That is true, I agree with that. But, What laid the egg that the chicken came out of may not have been a chicken. So, you can't call it a chicken egg if a chicken didn't shit out the egg.

chickens dont pop out of nowhere.. at some point, a non-chicken had to give birth to a chicken right? so the egg came first cuz the chicken had to come from one..
